Show moreA method for the construction and utilization of a medical records system capable of providing a continuous data stream of epidemiological data to the records system via kits provided to the symptomatic population to obtain and record an epidemiological profile in a searchable database by applying data mining or automated intelligence techniques whereby, when a valid epidemiological profile is established in the database, automated diagnosis and prescription of treatment may be had for patients presenting similar symptoms. Knowledge discovery techniques may further operate on the database to provide suggested courses of treatment for a virtual class of patients, epidemic threat awareness, and knowledge of drug resistance mutations by a pathogen without direct query of the database.

Show moreThere is evidence that people have been harvesting rainwater since 4000BC. The Roman Empire developed an intricate infrastructure to direct water to be used for irrigation and sanitary purposes. For the most part, modern society has abandoned the practice of harvesting rainwater because water sources have been plentiful and inexpensive. Residents have become accustom to turning on the tap and receiving potable water from their Municipal Authority or a free standing well. Essentially rainwater is undervalued and as such has not been given the priority it deserves. This circumstance is rapidly changing as fresh water is becoming more difficult to acquire. Municipalities are raising the price of water, adding regulations to restrict its use and promoting the rapid growth of investment in „green‟ lifestyle solutions. These actions are increasing public awareness of the need to reduce our “water footprint” and a willingness to invest in conservation systems. In urban settings, two-thirds of the water provided by municipalities goes to residential properties. In a typical single family home, 70 percent of the water used annually is used in toilets and outside the home for lawn irrigation, gardens, washing cars, swimming pools etc. These applications could successfully utilize non-potable water, if a reliable source existed for capturing and recycling it in a convenient and affordable way. This IPRO will develop and test a system targeted at homeowners for rainwater harvest.

Show moreEfficiency in parking facilities has been set to low standards since self-parking was introduced in the 1950s1. As technology has developed, parking has been left in the past. Drivers are increasingly realizing the problem as they become accustomed to other technology, which increases the efficiency of their lives (eg smartphones). While driving around searching for an open lot, circling a garage for an parking spot, or wandering through garage a looking for a parked car, people have time to ponder the many improvements that should be made to the parking experience. Simply Park: IPRO 365 is taking initiative to seize the possibilities new technologies offer the parking industry. The result should be improved driver experience as well as increased efficiency and profitability of parking facilities. The system will include signs visible to passersby that display the number of vacancies within a parking facility. Once in the parking facility, additional signs will direct drivers to sections of the facility with vacancies. Colored lights above each parking spot will indicate the state of occupancy for quick reference when looking down an aisle. When a driver parks, the ticket they receive at the entrance gate will associate their ticket to the spot they parked in, so when the driver returns to the facility he/she can present his/her ticket to a kiosk which will notify him/her how to get back to his/her car. As the vehicle leaves the ticket association will be reset and displays will update to show one more spot available. Additional interfaces through mobile and internet applications will further expedite the parking process. 1National

Show moreThe prototypes for a railroad tank car monitoring system have been developed in prior IPRO projects. The prototypes now need to be developed into potential product form, beta tested, and evaluated both technically and from a market perspective. A patent application has been outlined. A business plan needs to be written that gathers the information required to decide on a commercial product offering to Union Tank Car as the first customer. A market survey should define the potential market within the railroad industry, the economics of such a business, and its potential in other related market segments, such as trucking. At the end of this Entrepreneurial IPRO, we should have beta tested the potential product. If the results are successful, manufacturers and suppliers should be identified to bring the product to market. A first sale offering should be made to Union Tank Car, assuming beta testing is successful. The possibility to formulate a successful business together with our first customer, Union Tank Car, will be evaluated. The team required to execute the business plan will be identified; and the.potential for financing will also be addressed.

Show moreACCESS Healthcare is committed to excellent service in each step of the patient experience. In order to learn what elements of the experience need improvement, patients are surveyed at each of the 50 clinics, and the data is analyzed and compiled in a report each quarter. As the process of collecting surveys and inputting data is the responsibility of four employees, it requires a significant amount of time and travel, and should therefore be as efficient as possible. Our objective in this project is to obtain insights about the surveying process, through on-site observation, surveyor shadowing, and employee interviews that will allow us to provide the most comprehensive suggestions for increased surveyor productivity.

Show moreThe plan for this IPRO is to develop a design for a large scale parking garage that can accommodate about 500 cars. The objective of this project is to develop a design that goes beyond the standard parking systems used today. Rather, the attempt is to have a design which is more representative of “parking garages of future.” And as such, such features as quick handling of incoming and outgoing cars, efficiency in storage and aesthetics are considered in design. The building will be completely self-sufficient and will have to incorporate the architecture of the various buildings on campus. The design could have separate entrance and exit ramp towers, ramps incorporated with parking, or the futuristic design may be automated. An automated system will include a vehicle elevator of lift system to move the vehicle so the driver does not have to. The structure could be built with reinforced concrete or steel. The design will also include accessibility following the requirements set forth in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Show moreAll 4 Kidz Enterprises is a minority and women-owned business based in Homewood, Illinois. All 4 Kidz Enterprises specializes in providing multicultural learning aids and children's books with audio CDs for children ages 2 and up. This is done primarily through its "Urban Kidz" series of books. The author, Angela E. Davis, is a retired elementary teacher with a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction/Early Childhood Education. Her passion for educating young people led her to develop a series of books that would be both educational and enjoyable. She is also a frequent visitor to schools, conducting "Meet the Author Day", where she speaks to both students and teachers about realizing their dreams. Angela's mission is to provide young children with books and toys that will enhance their learning and broaden their thinking. To that end, she has developed a concept for a line of learning doll called Tummi Pals. Angela has researched the market and has not found a doll with the attributes of Tummi Pal. Her hope is to fill the void left by the initial excitement of the Cabbage Patch dolls.

Show moreA water-containing region at or near the surface of the earth, such as a landfill, that is contaminated with hazardous materials is decontaminated by heating the region with bound radio frequency energy from a bound-wave transmission line excitor array disposed outside the region to a temperature to boil water and thereby increase the permeability of the region. The heating is continued by dielectric heating after water has boiled from at least a portion of the region to heat the portion to elevated temperatures substantially above the boiling point of water. The materials may then be rendered innocuous in situ in a number of ways, as by pyrolysis, thermally assisted decomposition, or reaction with an introduced reagent, such as oxygen. The materials may also be driven from the region, as by distillation or by evaporation and steam drive and then collected and disposed of, as by incineration.
