Show moreTo provide a compact ozone generator, films of polymeric material are employed as dielectrics in combination with flat, planar electrodes to produce ozone by silient electrical discharge in an oxygen containing gas stream. The electrodes and dielectrics are cooled by the gas stream which is recycled across the electrodes and dielectrics and through an external heat exchanger.

Show moreA method in a data processing system and apparatus for organizing files, data items, web site members, or web pages, structured or unstructured, of multiple users stored across one or more server computers into hierarchical file structures on a recordable medium of a data processing system. A user-defined metalabel is assigned to each of the electronic files, data items, web site members, or web pages. The electronic files, data items, web site members, or web pages are organized as a function of the metalabels into the hierarchical file structures. The method includes automatically forming personalized hierarchies, such as a shadow copy for a second user, from the user-defined metalabels of a first user according to a user profile. The method includes automatically forming keywords of strings of at least two user-defined metalabels or a portion thereof, and automatically forming search structures of the keywords existing simultaneously with the plurality of hierarchical structures.

Show moreOver 250,000 people in the U.S. alone die annually from sudden cardiac arrest, and many of those that survive suffer brain damage, which can begin within minutes of the heart attack. Major risks among survivors include tissue damage, including brain damage. We are currently developing three life saving devices which could greatly decrease the risks which cardiac arrest victims face, and also save lives.

Show moreAn electrode configuration for use in association with a heat transfer member provided in a thermal energy transfer system. Separate multiple electrical conductors are each received on a respective first surface alteration. Each of the multiple conductors is connected to a different terminal of a multiphase alternating power source so that an electric traveling wave moves in a longitudinal direction of the heat transfer member so as to induce pumping of at least the liquid phase in the longitudinal direction to thereby enhance the thermal energy transfer characteristics of the thermal energy transfer system. In a preferred embodiment, the aforementioned heat transfer members are provided inside of an outer conduit.

There is also the possibility of broadening this program to other scholarly individuals outside of the IIT undergraduate community. These individuals include IIT graduate students, students from other universities, and promising high school students. ResearchWeb is also meant to improve the transition, and perhaps promote if need be, the transition from undergraduate education to graduate education. Show moreThe problem posed at Queen of Peace High School is one of sustainability. The IPRO 314 team will focus on the reuse and greening of existing school facilities and grounds. Three major spaces currently hold latent potential at the school: the abandoned convent/dormitory, library and inner courtyards, used correctly they can become a catalyst for positive change. It is proposed that the dormitory be torn down, in its place a “community center” would be constructed. The space will service extracurricular activities at the school, public outreach programs (i.e. youth groups, cub/girl scouts, etc.), club rooms and a new space for library books storage and usage. The second space being addressed is the library, given its current isolated position the space would be transformed into a communication and media center equipped with the technology necessary for worldwide communication. The third space addressed is the inner courtyards of the building. With six dispersed throughout the school grounds, they can become an active part of the recreational aspect of the school’s environment: places of social interaction, outdoor classrooms, etc. Additionally, the greening techniques proposed for the school’s facilities will include methods for efficiency improvement, education and school promotion.

Show moreIPRO 332’s objective is to develop the groundwork for a tool, to be implemented either in Chicago Public School classrooms or community centers, which will deliver balanced, non-biased information to its constituents about energy issues that affect their daily lives. We seek to do this, firstly, by familiarizing ourselves with the most pressing energy issues, identifying knowledge deficits concerning these issues, and selecting areas around which our concentrated effort will be most productive. Second, we will be studying current teaching methodologies and technologies in order to ensure our tool is as effective as possible. And, finally, we will identify companies, agencies and organizations currently working to deliver energy information, and learn from their expertise and experience. Through this research, we hope to learn from those currently endeavoring to spread fact-based information about energy, while developing a program of our own that ascribes to the requirements of the Chicago Public Schools’ Curriculum guidelines.

Coal City is located just south of I-80 along the I- 55 corridor and less than an hour from Bolingbrook and Oakbrook. Along the northern border of Coal city, are adjoining lakes and abandoned coal mines. Small town atmosphere is conducive to community interaction and pride. The purpose of this project was to provide the framework for creating the most feasible and sustainable economic development model for the village of Coal City using generalized approaches that could be emulated in other small towns. the objectives that the team has set are: Gather information that will lead to the creation of an effective plan. Study models and components of Sustainable Economic Development focusing on small towns and rural areas. Study the demographics, human systems, existing industry systems, bio-physical systems, government and social policy systems and the existing industry clusters. Understand community, local, and regional assets and talent pool, town vision, mission and economic development plans.

The sponsor is Pace, a successful and forward looking suburban Chicago bus company serving a six county market the size of Rhode Island. The focus of the workshop is to identify factors that will help Pace retain riders. Retention is a significant issue as it has direct financial implications and Pace does not know why they lose riders. Communication issues may be part of the retention problem. Pace will share existing research with us — we will extend and supplement this work.

Show moreThe IPRO goal was to design a process for the production of the biotherapeutic compound IFN-Alpha from Chinese Hamster ovaries. After the process design was complete, a process flow diagram showing the actual process and separation steps was created and finally an economic analysis of the market feasibility of the product was prepared. The approach to the IPRO involved dividing the objectives into three major groups: (1) the Che 496 group was involved in the process design and the separation processes; (2) the Che 296 group was involved in the public perception of biotechnology, the useful products from biotechnology and the survey of the commercial biotherapeutic compounds; and (3) the 435 group was involved with the history of biotherapeutics, classification and actions infernos and the companies involved in the production of therapeutics. The individual members of these groups are seen on the team list below.
