Show moreIPRO 340 (The Idea Fermentors) is working with Rock Bottom Brewery to determine alternative uses for the spent grain the brewery produces. Over 1,000 pounds of spent grain are produced at each of the three area locations weekly. Spent grain has many applications because of its high content of protein and fiber. Applications range from production of bio-plastics and bio-fuel, to agricultural uses as animal feed and compost material, to reuse as food for people. A major issue that Rock Bottom Brewery faces is that spent grain spoils very quickly, so alternative uses of spent grain must happen within a matter of days. IPRO 340 will determine what will be the best use of Rock Bottom Brewery’s spent grain in terms of logistics, cost, practicality, and environmental impact. The Idea Fermentors will lean and understand the brewery process and various applications for spent grain, as it pertains to Rock Bottom Brewery. The team will work together to accomplish project requirements as set forth by the IPRO office at IIT on time as well as satisfy the sponsor company’s needs.

Show moreChicago is the third largest intermodal freight hub in the world. Joliet, being so close, makes a great place as a depot to intercept much of Chicago’s goods, it is also far enough away to avoid further congestion in the city. Currently one hub exists in Joliet (Elwood BNSF), another is being developed (Centerpoint), and one is being proposed off of Lorenzo road. Our sponsor, Mi-Jack, has asked us to come up with solutions to make these freight hubs more efficient.

Show moreThe purpose of this IPRO is to develop a template for a website to host a user-friendly online database of green technologies information for the Electrical Contractors’ Association of the City of Chicago. This website will involve providing data on green electrical products with cut sheets, pricing and distributor information, return on investment projections, and LEED certification facts. The use of this website should help create a well informed transition from industry standard electrical products, to green alternative products, as well as cut down on miscommunication between architects and electrical contractors.

Show moreThe introduction of the robotics IPRO program in its few years has already served the IIT community some rather practical and innovative concepts of robotics. Through an impressive and beneficial advancement, the program has successfully carried on to the spring 2005 semester. The goals of the program remain simply a quest to advance the art of robotics in the IIT community. The stage has been aptly set by previous IPROS for higher and more substantial progression on this cause. The goals of the IPRO Spring 2005 team will be to create four prototypes of not merely user friendly robots but a sophisticated utilitarian bunch that would gain enough attention in support of the ultimate cause of the introduction of a robotics course. The Peppy, Roomba, Darpa and the Pyro are the four prototypes set for construction this semester.

Show moreParsons Brinckerhoff (PB) is an engineering, construction, technical, and management services firm that provides diverse solutions to private industrial customers worldwide, as well as to federal, regional, and local government agencies. Gathering requirements and feedback from the stakeholders for each project is imperative to meet the client’s needs. This process may be challenging due to the stakeholders’ diversity, location and time constraints. IPRO 320 was commissioned to design an application to interact with stakeholders for all PB projects. The stakeholders will be able to access information and take surveys, as well as post comments and other forms of multimedia to voice their opinions related to specific PB projects. During the summer 2011 semester, the IPRO developed concepts for an operational mobile application and web browser called PB OUR SPACE. To begin, this project required a vast amount of research and collaboration with Parsons Brinckerhoff. In order to make the most of a limited amount of time, the semester was divided into two parts. The first half of the semester was used to gather information about PB to build a better understanding of what would be required for the application. For the second half of the semester, we utilized that information to create a storyboard showing how the application will be used and developed. The functionality of the mobile application and browser is detailed in Appendix 3: Storyboard. The future IPRO team will be able to continue and expand this work by creating a working prototype of the storyboard concepts. All our work this semester has been compiled and filed to help make a smooth transition between semesters. This information contains the progress made thus far as well as recommendations for development of the application. By providing this information, the developed storyboard and proposed conclusions will make a solid framework for the development of the product, PB OUR SPACE (stakeholders’ perspectives about contextual elements).

This will be done by evaluating recall accuracy in the nonhospitalized clinically depressed population and comparing it to that of the nonclinical population. The specific objective of the Fall 2006 semester is to recruit twenty-five depressed and twenty-five nondepressed controls through advertisement, screen them, train them in the use of PDAs and collect data on their momentary affect rating.

Show moredistribution operation which will aid companies seeking to outsource logistics operations. However, the team’s main objective is to add a Request for Proposal tool to the existing model allowing companies to determine the effectiveness of outsourcing different aspects of warehouse operations. This team hopes to generate willingness in its members to establish an environment conducive to team-oriented goals, as outlined in the objectives below. Successful completion of the goals presented here will require each participant to gain useful experience and knowledge regarding teamwork, inter-professional skills and specifically warehouse logistics pricing. For the spring semester, the team has set forth the following objectives: Analyze existing model (Shipping, Manufacturing, Transportation, etc.) in terms of being user-friendly and effectiveness at accurately predicting cost versus revenue and whether the operations input should be outsourced. Refine the current model given the suggestions of a surveyed group, not differentiating the contributions of the IPRO students from the software users. Research costs associated with logistic processes. Develop a multi-purpose activity outsourcing tool for common use called “Request for Proposal”.

Specifically, we present results on the e⁺e⁻ → K⁺K⁻(γ), p̅p, KₛKₗ, KₛKₗπ⁺π⁻ , KₛKₛπ⁺π⁻, and KₛKₛK⁺K⁻ cross sections performed using events with initial-state photon radiation, which allows the cross sections to be measured at low energy and over an extended energy range. In addition, we present results on the inclusive momentum spectra of identified charged pions, kaons, and protons at the fixed center-of-mass energy of 10.54 GeV, allowing new tests of QCD.
