Show moreEfficiency in parking facilities has been set to low standards since self-parking was introduced in the 1950s1. As technology has developed, parking has been left in the past. Drivers are increasingly realizing the problem as they become accustomed to other technology, which increases the efficiency of their lives (eg smartphones). While driving around searching for an open lot, circling a garage for an parking spot, or wandering through garage a looking for a parked car, people have time to ponder the many improvements that should be made to the parking experience. Simply Park: IPRO 365 is taking initiative to seize the possibilities new technologies offer the parking industry. The result should be improved driver experience as well as increased efficiency and profitability of parking facilities. The system will include signs visible to passersby that display the number of vacancies within a parking facility. Once in the parking facility, additional signs will direct drivers to sections of the facility with vacancies. Colored lights above each parking spot will indicate the state of occupancy for quick reference when looking down an aisle. When a driver parks, the ticket they receive at the entrance gate will associate their ticket to the spot they parked in, so when the driver returns to the facility he/she can present his/her ticket to a kiosk which will notify him/her how to get back to his/her car. As the vehicle leaves the ticket association will be reset and displays will update to show one more spot available. Additional interfaces through mobile and internet applications will further expedite the parking process. 1National

Show moredistribution operation which will aid companies seeking to outsource logistics operations. However, the team’s main objective is to add a Request for Proposal tool to the existing model allowing companies to determine the effectiveness of outsourcing different aspects of warehouse operations. This team hopes to generate willingness in its members to establish an environment conducive to team-oriented goals, as outlined in the objectives below. Successful completion of the goals presented here will require each participant to gain useful experience and knowledge regarding teamwork, inter-professional skills and specifically warehouse logistics pricing. For the spring semester, the team has set forth the following objectives: Analyze existing model (Shipping, Manufacturing, Transportation, etc.) in terms of being user-friendly and effectiveness at accurately predicting cost versus revenue and whether the operations input should be outsourced. Refine the current model given the suggestions of a surveyed group, not differentiating the contributions of the IPRO students from the software users. Research costs associated with logistic processes. Develop a multi-purpose activity outsourcing tool for common use called “Request for Proposal”.

Show moreOur objectives for this semester are to: (1) Develop a teaching kit containing curriculum to present the Ecological Footprint module and instructional materials designed to help teachers teach the module. Use the teaching kit as a means of spreading our module beyond our immediate scope, to high school teachers, college campus organizations and volunteer based groups. (2) Develop a website to enrich the experience of the module, provide a professional contact interface and deliver our educational message to a broader audience. (3) Promote How Many Earths and education on resource consumption by developing marketing plan, publishing stories in local media outlets and capitalizing on publicity opportunities. (4) Continue to reach out to high school students by visiting more Chicago-land high schools, continuing to present the Ecological Footprint module and beginning to present the Cradle-to- Cradle module. (5) Refine the Cradle-to-Cradle presentation by analyzing feedback and response of pupils. (6) Continue to collect and analyze feedback from students and teachers concerning both of the modules, our presentation style and the teaching kit. Use this information to continually enhance the learning experience.

Show moreIn a new and fast growing customer driven economy, successful businesses are relying on customer feedback to provide the best products and services. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Customer Loyalty Management (CLM) tools and services are being implemented in businesses to aid in increasing customer satisfaction, maximizing profits per customer, and cheaper, more effective marketing. Comarch Customer Feedback Management (CCFM) solutions and software will help businesses in all markets develop targeted questionnaires to give businesses a better understanding of their customers’ needs, lifestyles, and culture. CCFM is customizable user friendly software developed for people of any skill level to design questionnaires for customer feedback, market research or any need for gathering customer data. CCFM’s goal is to be an effective software solution for people who need effective questionnaires even those who need to survey thousands of people and require data that is easily categorized. Businesses in today’s marketplace and global economy are competing to bring the best products, services and solutions to their customers. Businesses need to keep customers as long as they can to save money, and earn more off return customers and customer loyalty. Most businesses implement a CRM and CLM department, and CCFM’s questionnaire building software makes those departments more effective.

Show moreThe problem posed at Queen of Peace High School is one of sustainability. The IPRO 314 team will focus on the reuse and greening of existing school facilities and grounds. Three major spaces currently hold latent potential at the school: the abandoned convent/dormitory, library and inner courtyards, used correctly they can become a catalyst for positive change. It is proposed that the dormitory be torn down, in its place a “community center” would be constructed. The space will service extracurricular activities at the school, public outreach programs (i.e. youth groups, cub/girl scouts, etc.), club rooms and a new space for library books storage and usage. The second space being addressed is the library, given its current isolated position the space would be transformed into a communication and media center equipped with the technology necessary for worldwide communication. The third space addressed is the inner courtyards of the building. With six dispersed throughout the school grounds, they can become an active part of the recreational aspect of the school’s environment: places of social interaction, outdoor classrooms, etc. Additionally, the greening techniques proposed for the school’s facilities will include methods for efficiency improvement, education and school promotion.

Show moreThe primary purpose of the Interprofessional Project (IPRO) 330 team is to promote the study of mathematics and the sciences amongst Chicago Public School (CPS) students. We intend to achieve this goal primarily by enhancing the website sciencefair.math.iit.edu and by interacting directly with CPS students, educators, and administrators. The website, entitled Science Fair Extravaganza, is already fully functional thanks to the efforts of previous IPRO 330 groups. Our team aims to further improve and publicize this website. To improve the website we will be addressing suggestions given by CPS teachers and students as well as outside education professionals in an effort to provide a high quality and useful project. The success of our IPRO will be assessed by increasing the number of daily hits received by Science Fair Extravaganza and by positive direct interaction with CPS students.

Show more1048 million gallons of water is used in Chicago everyday. Chicago replenishes almost none of it. Although there is no water shortage currently, many believe that water will be to the next century what oil is to this century: a huge commodity. Twenty percent of the world's potable water is contained in the Great Lakes. In order to be responsible consumers of this natural resource, Chicago is looking into different plans to return water to Lake Michigan. The purpose of Growing Water IPRO is to create a prototype of an Eco-boulevard on the IIT campus that will serve as an example of practices that could be implemented across the Chicago-land area to manage and naturally purify storm water and sewage water so it can be reintroduced to Lake Michigan. These Eco-boulevards will also serve as educational facilities to inform the community about the growing scarcity of water and how to conserve this precious resource.

Show moreIPRO 324, Disaster Recovery: Do-It-Yourself Home Building, is focused on designing a building manual to aid disaster victims in building new buildings. The objectives of this group are to continue the efforts made from the previous semester. This includes the creation of a manual illustrating how to build the design, design for handicap accessibility as a provision to the current design, to market this manual to a disaster relief organization that would be responsible for the distribution, to find a new client who would be interested in having this project built, and to find funding in order to build the design. Over the course of this semester, the team will be focusing on creating the manual and attempting to build the design at a site either in New Harmony, Louisana or Gulfport, Mississippi where potential clients are. The house at a bare minimum consists of a multipurpose room, a kitchen, and a bathroom; and will cost approximately $17,000. This is an affordable home/structure considering the cost of building a house now. The team is aware that some families are not fortunate enough to have a savings of $20,000 when these unexpected disasters occur. For this reason, it is an objective of the team to obtain funding.
