Show moreDeveloping a website that will be capable of carrying out customer orders. Conducting market research to help determine the ideal customer for the service that our business provides. Designing a complete business. This involves mapping out the sourcing and distribution of products, determining an efficient supply chain, promoting and marketing the business so that people are aware that Apple-A-Day Chicago exists, determining the staffing requirements of the business, as well as analyzing what the projected costs and profits of the company will be. Providing proof of concept of the operation of the business so that there is concrete evidence that Apple-A-Day Chicago is a viable solution to providing individuals with a convenient and healthy snack.

Show moreOur team was asked to come up with an innovative and non-invasive means of extracting and measuring glucose levels in the body as well as administering insulin back into the body, also by non-invasive means. Our research lead us to several reports on the effectiveness of ultrasound in expanding pore opening diameters. We decided to approach the problem with a device that would administer ultrasonic vibration to the surface of the skin thus expanding the pore openings. Once expanded a combination of vacuum and reverse iontophoresis would then extract a small amount of interstitial fluid. The fluid would be measured for glucose concentration using impedance spectroscopy. Once a glucose concentration was found, a proper amount of insulin would then be administered back through the skin by means of pressure and iontophoresis. Our experiments were conducted on harvested porcine skin. Sonic vibration at or around 10kHz served as a substitute for ultrasound. Vacuum was administered to the surface of the skin after a set amount of time of sonic vibration. Although results at first seemed promising, further investigation into the behavior of harvested skin yielded that our results were not as they seemed. Impedance spectroscopy was explored by first trying to find the resonant frequency of glucose. Earlier attempts at this were unsuccessful do to frequency limitations of measuring devices. Our team learned of a device that could measure 10 times higher frequencies than what had previously been recorded, but unfortunately was unable to solidify a concrete resonant frequency for glucose.

Show moreIPRO 306 team is tasked with assisting a major plumbing manufacturer, Sloan Valve, in improving the global chain supply as well as the overall effectiveness and efficacy of their equipment and processes. Sloan Valve has three projects with IPRO 306 will be involved, and they range in three different fields of the manufacturer. The projects which IPRO 306 will be involved are: • Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) • Cost Matrix • Green Supply Chain The Cost matrix project group seeks to develop a tool that can capture and compare the different costs the company incurs when buying parts oversees vs. domestic. Sloan's idea is to start selling their products in other parts of the world at competitive price. Some of these markets are very competitive when it comes to price. So if Sloan buys materials domestically may not be able to offer competitive pricing worldwide. By creating a cost matrix tool, the company will be able to compare costs of raw material ordered abroad versus locally and wisely decide what the best choice to pursue is. The Second project is Overall Equipment Efficiency (herein after as OEE) which will be a continuation of last semester Lean Implementation project. OEE is designed to eliminate any downtime of a machine. Through a tracking process, OEE will help eliminate downtime and efficiently determine what is causing this down time. The goal of the project is to further make the OEE process more efficient in addition to creating and perfecting a tracking system which will be able to analyze and create reports from the data that will be input into the system. The third project is the Green Supply Chain. Currently, there is no industry standard for being “green.” The goal of this project is to establish a definition of “green,” and create a cost effective, consumer appealing, way to introduce this into the Sloan Valve supply chain. After defining “green,” team members will examine and create a strategy detailing ways in which Sloan Valve can implement green initiatives into the Sloan Valve supply chain. The purpose of this document is to give a detailed overview of the project, as it is currently defined through our meetings and charters provided by Sloan Valve. This document will provide critical information about the project involving the team and its assets, team goals, conflict resolutions and more. In addition it will also provide a brief background on Sloan Valve, along with a discussion of issues facing both the company and the IPRO team. A methodology of the project will be discussed as well as key deliverables and a work breakdown structure of the project.

Show moreThe IPRO 320 team is tasked with assisting Olympia Fields Country Club in making 3D models of their cottages and designing a bridge. Modeling all 26 cottages will necessitate the accurate collection of data from the cottages at the site. This will require the team to first survey the site and collect field data including measurements and digital photographs. After the data is collected, modeling of the cottages will start using computer software. This will be put into a presentable format for the country club. Also a publication is to be made on the process used in the collection of field data. The designing of the new bridge will serve as a Capstone requirement working with Robinson Engineering. Achieving this objective will require information from the site as well as an understanding of regulations involved in constructing a bridge. The model of the bridge will be presented to the country club as a possibility for replacing the existing deteriorating bridge. This document will give an extensive overview of the IPRO project. It will provide information on team members, details of the project procedure, and goals and expectations of the project. Work ethics and how to resolve team issues will be discussed. Also a brief history on Olympia Fields Country Club will be given.

Show moreBeer is one of the most consumed beverages in the world. The culture of brewing beer is one that continues to attract the attention of people from all walks of life. Beer can be differentiated one from another in terms of their color, alcohol content, smoothness, bitterness, type of ingredients used as well as the recipe used. In a very broad sense, however, beer can be broken up into lagers and ales. The main difference between lagers and ales is the kind of yeast used and the conditions under which the fermentation is carried out. In this project, an attempt will be made to produce a beer that is on the continuum between lagers and ales: the German Altbier. The Altbier has a unique combination of flavor, aroma, bitterness and smoothness. The central objective of this project is to take on the challenge of creating the Altbier. This will be accomplished by bringing together students from a broad range of academic backgrounds whose different skills sets will be applied to the task at hand.
