The aim of this IPRO was to assist our community partner the Save the Ramova Group, in developing new ideas for the renovation of the Ramova Theatre, which is located on the south side of the cross street of 35th and Halsted in Bridgeport. The theatre which has been around since the 1930’s has fallen into disrepair and has suffered a lot of damage over the years due to no maintenance and weathering through the seasons. The renovation of the theatre would not only mark the revival of a nostalgic memory but it would open up new avenues of development along the Halsted St. Corridor in addition to being a place that people in and around Bridgeport can go to for entertainment and leisure close to their homes. This semester the IPRO team started building a design initiative from scratch; by creating and handing out surveys to various groups of people, along with creating different studies in order to gain information on the needs and wants of the community along with the perspectives of the vast different groups of people in the neighbouring areas. After the data collection, it was analysed and as a result a preliminary program was drawn up by the group along with a cash flow report called a proforma that shows the feasibility of the project. In the following semesters the IPRO team should be able to develop the preliminary program into a sustainable design of the renovated theater as well as analyse the feasibility of the design and integrate the various building systems into the design in order to restore the Ramova to a fully working condition., Deliverables

The device includes a glucose sensor for measuring a glucose level of a patient, a physiological status monitoring system for measuring at least one physical or metabolic variable of the patient, and an automatic controller in communication with the glucose sensor and the physiological status monitoring system. In 1983, a group of students from the Institute of Design at Illinois Institute of Technology began work on a project that described what a house of the future would entail. This team ended up winning the grand prize (10,000,000 yen) at the first International Design Competition held in Osaka, Japan because their creative and innovative ideas about how a house of the future should be built 22 years later, in 2005, IIT’s Interprofessional Projects program started the Sustainable Village Project, an endeavor to build a sustainable and environmentally-aware community on the IIT campus. Part of this project was to design the house of the future in such a fashion as would fit in with the Sustainable Village. Through use of research both in the 1983 House of the Future, as well as the House of the Future developed in the spring of 2005, this semester IPRO 301 – Back to the House of the Future had the task of establishing a system of ideas and concepts which could be globally integrated to change the way modern housing is viewed and approached by builders and residents alike. Instead of simply being a structure that disrupts the environment and depletes natural resources, the house of the future will allow for the building of units which can be integrated into the environment and are more sustainable and efficient. By developing a methodology based on next-generation design principles, key technological advances, and considerations for building regulations and human health and safety concerns, IPRO 301 will lay a universal framework for constructing Houses of the Future of all shapes and sizes., Deliverables for IPRO 301: House of the Future for the Spring 2006 semester
Tension Indicating Fastener
Fasteners such as mine bolts are provided with tension indicators to directly read tension in the shank of the bolt. The preferred tension indicators comprise an elongated pin disposed in a bore formed in the bolt and connected at the bottom of the bore to the bolt shank to be tensioned thereby. The tension indicator further comprises a cross bar attached to the other end of the pin and extending laterally into engagement with another portion of the bolt, such as the head of the bolt, to be bent upon tensioning of the pin. The preprint of a published article dealing with the effect of allocating Federal Depositories by Congressional district. Conclusions drawn include the fact that due to redistricting that occurs after each decennial census, over time some districts may have within their boundaries a greater number than the two depositories that Congressional district allocation was intended to produce. Likewise, over time shifting boundaries of districts have created districts that have no depositories whatsoever.

The project aims to convert the urban wood waste into an environmentally friendly, marketable product. The primary focus this semester will be to create visibility for urban wood through the connection of products made from urban wood to the end users. The primary drawback for urban wood is the perception of “no value” attached to the wood, which results in an epidemic of wasted wood, since nobody wants to use it. This project will research and organize possible production methods and uses for urban wood, which could create a business opportunity and jump-start the urban wood demand/market in Chicago., Deliverables

The goals of this project are to analyze the wind resources in Chicago, verify the efficiency of a TurbodynamX wind turbine design, develop a business plan for TurbodynamX, Inc., and research feasibility for a wind farm at Iroquois Landing. Measurement of the strong coupling αS from the 3-jet rate in e⁺ e⁻ annihilation using JADE data
We describe a measurement of the strong coupling αS(MZ₀ ) from the 3-jet rate in hadronic final states of e⁺ e⁻ annihilation recorded with the JADE detector at centre-of-mass energies of 14 to 44 GeV. The jets are reconstructed with the Durham jet clustering algorithm. The JADE 3-jet rate data are compared with QCD predictions in NNLO combined with resummed calculations. THE BIFURCATION BEHAVIOR OF AN AUTOTHERMAL PACKED-BED TUBULAR REACTOR
The analysis of a chemical reactor by numerical bifurcation techniques can completely define the multiplicity and stability of its equilibrium states and can give insights into the reactor's parametric sensitivity and dynamical behavior in the neighborhood of the chosen operating points. In this paper, we will present some of the numerical bifurcation techniques used and developed in analyzing an autothermal packed bed tubular reactor. The bifurcation behavior found will be cataloged over the range of relevant reactant inlet conditions, and an explanation for the isolated solution branches characteristic of this reactor will also be presented., Endnote format citation
DISTURBANCE GROWTH TRIGGERED BY STEADY HEATING OF A JETS NOZZLE EXIT BOUNDARY-LAYER
Experiments were conducted to investigate how heating only the nozzle exit boundary layer of an axisymmetric jet, with an unheated potential core, affects disturbance growth in the initial shear layer. The exit boundary layer had a minimum density ratio of 0.74, was laminar, and had a constant momentum thickness (theta) for all levels of nozzle heating used in this study. The fluctuating velocity (u') and temperature (t') in the exit boundary layer increased monotonically with increasing nozzle temperature. Low-amplitude acoustic excitation produced a more rapid growth of coherent velocity fluctuations for the heated case than for the unheated. (C) 1995 American Institute of Physics.

Particle Sensing Apparatus, Method and Flow Direction Collar Therefor
A flow direction collar is positionable in an electrical zone sensing apparatus with an elongated bore therein disposed in substantial alignment with an aperture through which particles carried by a liquid pass while being electrically sensed. The collar is positioned immediately upstream of the aperture to cause a directional flow of the liquid along a path substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis for the aperture. The flow through the collar directs the particles to flow along paths substantially parallel to the aperture axis thereby reducing the turbulence about the particle created by abrupt changes in velocity. Method and Apparatus for In Situ Decontamination of a Site Contaminated with a Volatile Material
A method for removing a contaminant from a treatment region of a contaminated region of a site in the earth having water therein and being contaminated with the contaminant includes heating the earth by establishing an electric field through the treatment region. The electric field gives rise to an electric conduction or displacement current through the treatment region. The electric current electrically heats at least a portion of the treatment region to a temperature below the boiling point of water to evaporate the water. A vacuum is drawn in a nether region of the site to collect water vapor evolved from the water and contaminant vapor evolved from the contaminant by movement of air from the surface of the earth, while the water vapor strips the contaminant from the earth.
