Show moreThe objective of the Immunization group is to evaluate ACCESS Community Health Care’s immunization program and provide suggestions for improvements to the program. The focus will be on the implementation the TOTS system (Tracking our Toddlers’ Shot) in the program. In order to successfully evaluate the program, the team will visit health centers to investigate the process of immunization from the first time a child is immunized at a center to when all the required shots are administered. This time period includes the time when the child was born up to his/her adolescent age. Our goal is to suggest a method or improvements in tracking the immunization progress of the child once he/she enters an ACCESS site

Show morePrimary Objective The primary objective of this IPRO is to support the development of the first Category 3 International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) accredited program in Latin America. Secondary Objectives The secondary objectives are necessary for accomplishing the primary objective. To ensure that the program will be accredited, many guidelines must be followed; these guidelines have set the secondary objectives as follows: Develop several educational modules concerning common conditions and their orthotic treatments Develop several low-cost demonstrations and hand-outs to compliment the educational modules Carefully follow ISPO requirements to ensure accreditation Translate all material to Spanish for use in Latin America Develop materials covering club foot, spinal trauma, and stroke, and how they relate to orthotics and prosthetics for a two day conference in January at Joliet Junior College Work with educators in Colombia to develop a program similar to IPRO 309

Show moreOver the course of the term, IPRO 318 made progress in the “[Search] for Novel Drug Targets.” This IPRO is part of an ongoing effort to try to find potential drug targets on pathogenic proteins. During past terms, IPRO 318 has compiled information on proteins that are known to be involved in diseases in a disease gene database. By comparing this to a database of hypothetical genes, possible high value proteins were found. This term IPRO 318 continued the lab work on the high value proteins found in previous semesters, found new ones and began lab work on those proteins, continued work on the databases, and started a new allergen database.
