USHMM Mediator (semester?), IPRO 311
The Spring ’05 semester IPRO 311 will focus on the task of implementing the Mediator, a multistructured search engine, on the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum data set. It is our goal to provide a concrete example of Mediator working in a real world situation, so that we may use it as a reference during the future marketing of our product., Deliverables for IPRO 311: USHMM Mediator for the Spring 2005 semester
Selecting a Compensation Strategy to Control Project Duration: Empirical Comparison of Lump Sum and Reimbursable Strategies (Working Paper)
Reducing project duration is a significant concern for many industries in the speed-to-market era. Numerous studies have examined the effects of project delivery methods on speeding up the process of construction. However, no study has quantitatively compared the effect of using different compensation strategies on schedule duration and schedule reduction. Using the data obtained from 175 international construction projects, this paper focuses on examining the influence of compensation strategy (lump sum versus reimbursable) on project duration while specifically taking into account the industry sector (heavy industrial versus light industrial). The results of the study provide empirical evidence that using a reimbursable compensation strategy can potentially shorten the procurement duration, construction duration, and overall project duration of heavy industrial projects. However, reimbursable contracting did not appear to reduce the project duration on light industrial projects.

Video Magnetic Transducer System with Phase Correcting Network
One embodiment of video transducing system supplies a reproduced video signal with compensated amplitude response so as to exhibit a substantial phase advance for recorded half wavelengths less than the thickness of the magnetizable layer, and a phase correcting network is inserted between the playback winding and the playback amplifier. In a further embodiment, amplitude and phase are partially compensated such that there is a substantial amplitude fall off and a moderate phase advance at the highest frequencies of the useful range, and such that the leading edge of a step function when played back has an overshoot of approximately one to six decibels., Sponsorship: IIT Research Institute, United States Patent
The Pilgrim project: IIT and the Stroll (Fall 2003) IPRO 332: The Pilgrim Project- IIT and the Stroll IPRO332 Fall2003 Final Presentation
This project will assist Pilgrim Baptist Church in developing archival, instructional, and commercial materials for the non-sectarian Thomas A. Dorsey Community and Cultural Arts Center, which will be located at the corner of 33rd Street and Indiana (just east of the IIT campus). In this sub-project (part of a series of related IPROs), participants will focus on four tasks: (1) creating an online discography (database) covering 1900-1960; (2) developing a web-based interactive map of music venues in Bronzeville, 1900-1960, including landmarks located on what is now the IIT campus; (3) creating a series of CDs illustrating the music played at each venue, 1900-1960; (4) negotiating contracts with commercial music publishers and gathering required permissions. Students will research relevant archival materials in the VivianG. Harsh Research Collection of Afro-American History and Literature, the DuSable Museum, the Chicago Historical Society, and the Chicago Jazz Archive at the University of Chicago. Finally, students will begin to prepare informational materials in diverse media for distribution at the Dorsey Center., Sponsorship: Pilgrim Baptist Church, Project Plan for IPRO 332: The Pilgrim project; IIT and the Stroll for Fall 2003 semester

Robbins Community Power (RCP) (Semester Unknown) IPRO 347
The IPRO 347 team intends to seize the opportunity given by Robbins Community Power (RCP) to improve the efficiency of the power plant. RCP plans to convert the facility from its original role as an incinerator into a wood biomass electricity plant. Working with RCP, the team will look at thermodynamic values to determine how to best utilize the excess heat generated from the boiler that currently radiates out the cooling towers. Additionally, the team will research and discuss possible solutions to be implemented on the 22 acre site. The intricacies that arise from the nontraditional nature of our plan require we split into two groups. One sub-team will look into exactly where the waste heat exists and the values of viable energy available in the form of steam or hot water. This team will seek interdisciplinary advice as part of the energy analysis. The second, but most influential, sub-team will predominantly be researching feasible outlets for the recovered energy. Some solutions they will pursue include supplying nearby greenhouses with CO2, providing on-site and local heat, and increasing the efficiency of the plant through drying processes., Sponsorship: Robbins Community Power Plant, Deliverables
PB Our Space- A Parsons Brinckerhoff Project (Summer 2011) IPRO 320
PB Our Space- A Parsons Brinckerhoff Project (Summer 2011) IPRO 320
Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) is an engineering, construction, technical, and management services firm that provides diverse solutions to private industrial customers worldwide, as well as to federal, regional, and local government agencies. Gathering requirements and feedback from the stakeholders for each project is imperative to meet the client’s needs. This process may be challenging due to the stakeholders’ diversity, location and time constraints. IPRO 320 was commissioned to design an application to interact with stakeholders for all PB projects. The stakeholders will be able to access information and take surveys, as well as post comments and other forms of multimedia to voice their opinions related to specific PB projects. During the summer 2011 semester, the IPRO developed concepts for an operational mobile application and web browser called PB OUR SPACE. To begin, this project required a vast amount of research and collaboration with Parsons Brinckerhoff. In order to make the most of a limited amount of time, the semester was divided into two parts. The first half of the semester was used to gather information about PB to build a better understanding of what would be required for the application. For the second half of the semester, we utilized that information to create a storyboard showing how the application will be used and developed. The functionality of the mobile application and browser is detailed in Appendix 3: Storyboard. The future IPRO team will be able to continue and expand this work by creating a working prototype of the storyboard concepts. All our work this semester has been compiled and filed to help make a smooth transition between semesters. This information contains the progress made thus far as well as recommendations for development of the application. By providing this information, the developed storyboard and proposed conclusions will make a solid framework for the development of the product, PB OUR SPACE (stakeholders’ perspectives about contextual elements)., Sponsorship: Parsons Brinckerhoff, Project Plan for IPRO 320: PB Our Space- A Parsons Brinckerhoff Project for the Summer 2011 semester
Video Transducer System and Cartridge Therefor
In the illustrated embodiment a video cartridge contains an endless loop record tape with a multiplicity of channels, and a pair of pivotal guide arms for holding a length of tape in a taut condition to facilitate loading of the cartridge with the tape threaded between a capstan drive assembly and a transducer head. The downward movement of the cartridge into the operative position serves to retract the tape guides clear of the operating tape path. A tape tension arm is provided along the tape path in the cartridge and is so arranged as to apply tension to the tape as the cartridge is unloaded from the transducing machine. The tape reel in the cartridge is suspended on a bearing ball so as to provide very low resistance to rotation., Sponsorship: IIT Research Institute, United States Patent

Greening and Reuse of Queen of Peace High School Facilities (Semester Unknown) IPRO 314
Greening and Reuse of Queen of Peace High School Facilities (Semester Unknown) IPRO 314
The problem posed at Queen of Peace High School is one of sustainability. The IPRO 314 team will focus on the reuse and greening of existing school facilities. Three major projects currently hold latent potential for the school: the communications center, the sustainability wall, and the overall greening of the facilities. If these projects are completed correctly, they will become a catalyst for positive change. We are proposing to create a transition from library to communication center because of its isolated state in the school. The sustainability wall is two-fold in terms of benefit. It will upgrade the current windows which are lacking and will create an interesting learning tool. Greening of the entire school is the third project and includes windows, roofing, etc. to improve efficiency. Through the use of all three proposals, IPRO 314 believes in the school promotion and what enrollment it could bring., Deliverables
