- eyeCAN (Semester Unknown) IPRO 357
- eyeCan seeks to develop and prototype assistive devices that will enable the visually impaired to exercise independently. Initially, our efforts have been devoted to developing a device that will allow such individuals to swim independently which from a sighted person‟s perspective might not be perceived as an issue. From research we have found this not to be the case, for the visually impaired it‟s very difficult to swim without causing harm to themselves. With our product eyeSwim, we hope to improve the quality of life for visually impaired individuals by providing them with opportunity to exercise safely. Currently, eyeCan is in the process of researching other activities i.e. running, biking, climbing which may prove to be another opportunity for expanding the business‟ focus., Deliverables

- Assisting Blind and Visually Impaired Swimmers (semester?), IPRO 310
- IPRO 310’s objectives are to continue the designing and building process of devices that help visually impaired swimmers. The IPRO 310 team intends to design, create and test a sonar device that actively aids a visually impaired swimmer. The team also plans on redesigning, building and testing a swimming lane tapper that passively aids visually impaired swimmers. In addition, the 310 IPRO team has a business and marketing team that will be surveying members of the visually impaired community to assess their need and acceptance of the proposed devices., Deliverables for IPRO 310: Assisting Blind and Visually Impaired Swimmers for the Summer 2007 semester

- Easy Access, Early Exit? The Internet and the FDLP (preprint)
- The article presents information on Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). The majority of the twentieth century saw a marked growth in the number of libraries participating in FDLP. The FDLP was established by Congressional resolution on December 27, 1813. On December 1, 1814, the American Antiquarian Society of Worcester, Massachusetts received the first documents distributed to a non-governmental body and became the first depository library. The primary purpose of the program was preservation of the historical record, not dissemination. Staff and funding issues and the availability of resources via the Internet points to the weight that libraries may be placing on the ability to provide information via the Internet on their decisions to remain in or to leave the FDLP. In today's work environment, in which increased productivity is expected and doing more with less is essential, the Internet can be an obvious alternative to physical collections, which require space and greater staff time and resources. In the last decade, the essential association between the ability to provide access to government information and participation in the FDLP has broken down.

- Static and dynamic behavior of autocatalytic replicators in reactor networks
- The static and dynamic behavior of the autocatalytic reaction R + 2P --> 3P with decay P --> D is studied in networks of coupled continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTRs). Numerical bifurcation studies of the system are performed, resulting in rich steady-state bifurcation structures with multiple steady states and isolas. The heterogeneity of the networks is influenced by the number of reactors as well as the network topology. It is shown that the number of steady states of the network increases with heterogeneity, thereby allowing those autocatalytic species to exist in the network that would normally not exist in the homogeneous environment of a single CSTR. Spatial patterns of stable steady states are evident in reactor networks. Dynamic simulation studies are performed to illustrate the transition from one stable state configuration to another or from stable steady states to periodic regimes., Endnote format citation for DOI:10.1021/ie030802d

- Advancing Robotics Experience (semester?), IPRO 316
- The introduction of the robotics IPRO program in its few years has already served the IIT community some rather practical and innovative concepts of robotics. Through an impressive and beneficial advancement, the program has successfully carried on to the spring 2005 semester. The goals of the program remain simply a quest to advance the art of robotics in the IIT community. The stage has been aptly set by previous IPROS for higher and more substantial progression on this cause. The goals of the IPRO Spring 2005 team will be to create four prototypes of not merely user friendly robots but a sophisticated utilitarian bunch that would gain enough attention in support of the ultimate cause of the introduction of a robotics course. The Peppy, Roomba, Darpa and the Pyro are the four prototypes set for construction this semester., Deliverables for IPRO 316: Advancing Robotics Experience for the Spring 2005 semester

- Alternative Meropolitan Power Strategy (Semester Unknown) IPRO 302
- e federal government is considering mandating a 20% renewable portfolio standard (RPS). Currently, the City of Chicago uses less than 3% of electricity from renewable energy. Our goal is to produce a hypothetical design for renewable energy to account for 20% of the City of Chicago’s electricity needs, Sponsorship: Sargent and Lundy, Deliverables

- Research on Financial Web Sites Designed for Teenagers (Fall 2001) IPRO 359
- The proliferation of the Internet in recent years has led to more people using, and being confused by, computer interfaces. Usability testing is a formal laboratory procedure used to identify problems with user interfaces during the development of a product. It involves creating tasks for users to accomplish and watching whether they can complete the given tasks. More importantly, the testers observe how users interact with the interface in an attempt to understand why they perform the actions they do. The testing allows developers to identify issues with their designs early enough in the product development cycle to be able to change them, saving money and resources later, in addition to creating an easier-to-use product. Unfortunately, many companies do not implement usability testing or do so too late into development to make any substantive changes suggested by the testing. The result is often a product that is needlessly hard to use. The team will conduct usability tests during the semester to gain first-hand experience in all aspects of usability testing. This project will test the interfaces of products produced by other IPROs and will work closely with other teams to identify and address issues arising from their work so that students on this team and others can appreciate the value of usability testing and designing with the end users in mind. A major focus of the team's work during the Fall 2001 semester will be to develop a business plan for the IIT Usability Testing and Evaluation Center (UTEC), and in particular to develop a marketing strategy for establishing UTEC as the Underwriter's Laboratory of the internet, whereby a web site authorized by UTEC to display the (UTEC) seal of approval will hold the distinction of having met minimum standards of usability for its intended user populations., Sponsorship: NA, Project Plan for IPRO 359: Research on Financial Web Sites Designed for Teenagers for the Fall 2001 semester

- Method and Apparatus for Electrostatic Spray Deposition for a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell
- A method and apparatus for electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) for fabricating a thin-layer yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte on a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) anode substrate constructed of nickel-YSZ cermet. By reducing the thickness of the electrolyte, and thereby reducing the cell internal IR drop, an intermediate temperature SOFC (ITSOFC) can operate at 600 800.degree. C. A collar positioned at a distance from a discharge end of a spray nozzle enhances a spray pattern of a precursor including the electrolyte material and thus provides a very thin electrolyte layer., Sponsorship: Illinois Institute of Technology, United States Patent

- Environmental Wood Reclamation (Semester Unknown) EnPRO 350
- This is the first semester of EnPro 350. Although the title suggests wood reclamation via arts and crafts, we have decided to expand the focus to reclamation via urban wood and lumber. We would like to start a business that addresses a need in the market for convenient removal of dead or infested trees in an urban setting. This encompasses all trees not located in forests or tree groves, and includes those found in urban setting. Often, the expense to remove one’s trees from his property is a time-intensive, confusing, and expensive process. We have decided to provide the service of tree health assessment, removal, processing, lumber certification, and marketing through utilizing the concept of vertical integration. Mission Statement: "To Satisfy Our Customers by Providing High Quality Wood from Urban Forests while Creating a Positive Change in the Environment", Deliverables
