A number of the greystone buildings visible served as Illinois Tech fraternity houses, including, at the far left of the photograph, Brown Hall, the Delta Tau Delta House, and the Phi Kappa Sigma house. At the far right of the photograph, the buildings are believed to include the Alpha Sigma Phi house, the Triangle House, and the Pi Kappa Phi house. These buildings were all demolished between ca. 1959-1963 as the block was cleared for the construction of new Illinois Tech dormitories. Brown Hall, located at 3254 South Michigan Avenue. The building was designed by Francis M. Whitehouse of Burling & Whitehouse and was demolished in 1961. Once known as Cudahy mansion, this building was purchased in 1939 for graduate students. It served as one of IIT's Naval housing quarters from approximately 1943-45. After World War II, the building housed graduate students and, from 1948-61, the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
