Show moreThe present invention relates to the magnetic recording of televisions signals. The source of video signals is a television receiver. Adapter circuitry is disclosed which includes a detachable cable for coupling the magnetic transducing heads with the video output of the receiver for the purpose of recording the broadcast signal or the display of the reproduced video signal derived from the tape. Detachment of the cable places the television receiver in a condition to allow the display of the broadcast video instead of recording the broadcast video signal. Show moreA magnetic transducer head having a coupling gap of controllable effective longitudinal dimension. In one embodiment a gap spacer of magnetic material is energized by bias current and/or signal current during recording while being deenergized during playback to provide a larger coupling gap for recording than for playback. Recording gap size may be controlled dynamically, or a very high frequency bias current such as 100 mhz may be supplied to the magnetic gap spacer. A magnetic head may have a zero gap dimension when the magnetic gap spacer is deenergized to prevent any substantial residual external field. An electro-magnetic transducer head with the electric circuit portion including a path through the electrically conductive magnetic corepiece at the transducer gap, thus concentrating the gap field and mininizing core losses at very high bias or signal frequencies. Show moreA magnetic head is shown having auxiliary core material in a substantially unstressed condition with very low direct current coercivity and located within the working magnetic core for diverting magnetic flux due to residual magnetization of the main core of the head away from the record medium path. Crossfield magnetic heads, offset pole magnetic heads, and composite core magnetic heads with windings for different frequency ranges are also disclosed. Show moreA magnetic transducer system for selective audio or video operation with movable guides for shifting the tape path between audio, video, and rewind positions, or with fixed guides defining both an audio and video tape path, the audio tape path being clear of the video head, for example. A video transducer with a receptacle removably receiving and providing external energization for a battery powered audio transducer unit. An audio/video cartridge transducer arrangement for selective operation with audio and video cartridges of different configuration, preferably using a common capstan element. Show moreA tape cartridge transducer machine compatible with existing tape cartridges but provided with a cartridge ejection leverage mechanism which is actuated manually or by a solenoid to overcome the cartridge-biasing spring and shift the cartridge to an inactive standby position in the cartridge receiving space of the machine, after which the cartridge is manually removable with minimum effort. The machine preferably provides a balanced cartridge-biasing means to safeguard the cartridge against binding. Sponsorship: IIT Research Institute United States Patent Show less
