Show moreIn this project, students will help the staff of the Lugenia Burns Hope Center develop the leadership capacities of the people of Bronzeville.Working behind the scenes in this non-profit organization as web masters, document designers, information managers, business consultants, and project coordinators, students will not only have the opportunity to learn more about this historic, African-American community but also play a role in itsrevitalization. The Hope Center was established in 1994 and is located on the main campus of IIT, at 34th and State. For the past five years, the center has offered classes and workshops for emerging leaders in Bronzeville. At this time, the Center wishes to recruit more students, to track its graduates and learn more about the graduates current work in the community. Students will help the staff reach these goals in three ways: by developing a database ofalumni, creating profiles of the graduates as community leaders, and designing promotional material about the Hope Center in the form of a brochure, a newsletter, and an interactive, multi-media web site. This work would be framed by a business plan that outlines previous achievements of the Hope Center and forecasts goals for the next 3E years. Because the Center lacks the resources that would enable them to complete these tasks on its own, it welcomes all IIT students with interests in leadership, community development, and African-American history.
