Show moreA method of making a magnetic transducer head or element thereof from a binary alloy of silicon and iron, preferably containing from about 3 percent to 7 percent of silicon by weight, including provision of a grain-oriented silicon-iron core, annealing the core at a temperature above the Curie point in a dry hydrogen atmosphere and during cooling from that temperature subjecting the core piece to a magnetic field applied in the direction of the working flux at the core. The annealed core piece is formed so as to provide a gap-defining face for coupling to a magnetic record medium, the gap being of the order of about 1 micron. Show moreA portable video recording system, particularly for amateur video reporting operations and the like, employing a camera station and a recording station which are physically separated from one another and connected over wireless links, the camera station being of a size to be readily manually carried on the person and designed merely to produce video and associated signals and transmit the same by radiation of a high frequency carrier, light or other signal to the recording station, and processed by receiving means thereat to derive the signals to be recorded, the recorder being operatively controlled from the camera station, whereby both the camera and the recorder of the remote recording station are under the control of the camera operator. Signals are also transmitted from the recording station to the camera station for indicating to the camera operator the operation of the recorder. Such indicating means may be a video monitor, an audio signal such as a tone signal, a visual signal such as an indicator light, or a combination thereof. Means also may be provided for effecting a selective switching, whereby a video signal may be returned to the camera either from the play-back head during recording operations, or from the recording head when the recording mechanism is not in operation. Show moreAn electron beam head for reproducing magnetically recorded video signals wherein magnetic fields from the record medium are channeled to the interior of the envelope to deflect the primary electrons transversely to the scanning direction of the beam. In one embodiment, the sensing electrodes are at opposite sides of the magnetic field region at an end wall of the envelope, while in another embodiment the primary electron beam passes through the openings in a grid of magnetic wires so as to interact with the magnetic fields therebetween, electrostatic deflecting means serving to deflect the electron beam through a substantial angle as it leaves the grid so as to impinge on sensing electrodes remote from the grid. In a third embodiment, secondary electrons are conducted into a branch tube extending from the main envelope and a single electrode senses the degree of deflection of the secondary electrons by the magnetic fields permeating the secondary emission region. Show moreA video and/or audio magnetic transducer apparatus includes a capstan assembly formed with at least one annular groove therein and a compressible medium in the groove for nonrigidly backing a recording medium opposite a recording channel thereon. Adjustable stop means limit movement of a transducer head cooperable with the capstan when the head is in a cooperable operating position with respect to the recording medium for preventing damage thereto.
