Collaborative and Personalized Storage and Search in Hierarchical Abstract Data Organization Systems
A method in a data processing system and apparatus for organizing files, data items, web site members, or web pages, structured or unstructured, of multiple users stored across one or more server computers into hierarchical file structures on a recordable medium of a data processing system. A user-defined metalabel is assigned to each of the electronic files, data items, web site members, or web pages. The electronic files, data items, web site members, or web pages are organized as a function of the metalabels into the hierarchical file structures. The method includes automatically forming personalized hierarchies, such as a shadow copy for a second user, from the user-defined metalabels of a first user according to a user profile. Electrode Design for Electrohydrodynamic Induction Pumping Thermal Energy Transfer System
An electrode configuration for use in association with a heat transfer member provided in a thermal energy transfer system. Separate multiple electrical conductors are each received on a respective first surface alteration. Each of the multiple conductors is connected to a different terminal of a multiphase alternating power source so that an electric traveling wave moves in a longitudinal direction of the heat transfer member so as to induce pumping of at least the liquid phase in the longitudinal direction to thereby enhance the thermal energy transfer characteristics of the thermal energy transfer system. Greening and Reuse of Queen of Peace High School Facilities (Semester Unknown) IPRO 314
The problem posed at Queen of Peace High School is one of sustainability. The IPRO 314 team will focus on the reuse and greening of existing school facilities and grounds. Three major spaces currently hold latent potential at the school: the abandoned convent/dormitory, library and inner courtyards, used correctly they can become a catalyst for positive change. It is proposed that the dormitory be torn down, in its place a “community center” would be constructed. The space will service extracurricular activities at the school, public outreach programs (i.e. youth groups, cub/girl scouts, etc.), club rooms and a new space for library books storage and usage. The second space being addressed is the library, given its current isolated position the space would be transformed into a communication and media center equipped with the technology necessary for worldwide communication. The third space addressed is the inner courtyards of the building. With six dispersed throughout the school grounds, they can become an active part of the recreational aspect of the school’s environment: places of social interaction, outdoor classrooms, etc. Additionally, the greening techniques proposed for the school’s facilities will include methods for efficiency improvement, education and school promotion., Deliverables
Modeling, monitoring and control strategies for high temperature short time pasteurization systems - 2. Lethality-based control
A lethality-based control system was designed to provide accurate control of a high temperature shout time (HTST) pasteurizer and to process milk products with a lethality equivalent of 161 degrees F (71.67 degrees C) or above for 15 s. This control system provides significant flexibility in operating the process and optimizing functional properties of the food components. Multivariable control of an HTST pasteurizer is implemented by using product total lethality to determine the controller set-points. The equation that relates the temperature and flow rate combinations to the product total lethality, 161 degrees F (71.67 degrees C), 15 s, was modified to permit overprocessing levels specified by plant personnel. By using this equation and the set-point value selected for the other variable, set-point values for the temperature or the flow rate controller were computed. The flow and temperature controllers are integrated into a real-time monitoring and control system. The monitoring and control system includes the multivariable controller, the lethality rate calculation module, statistical monitoring of the total lethality, product flow rate, hot wafer outlet temperature, and holding tube exit temperature measurements, and the display screens for visual inspection of the monitoring tools. This study attempted to achieve compliance of the HTST process operation with the recommended Pasteurized Milk Ordinance by providing a margin between the alarm limits of the monitoring chart and the safety limits., Endnote format citation

Home Monitoring of the Spinal Cord Injured Patient (Spring 2003) IPRO 330: Home Monitoring of Spinal Cord Injured Patient IPRO330 Spring2003 Final Presentation
Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) are at greater risk for medical problems, and an important part of lifelong rehabilitation is the prevention of these complications. Areas of concern include pressure ulcers, lower urinary tract problems, respiratory infections, chronic pain, depression, obesity, leg spasms, bowel impaction, cardiovascular problems, poverty and social isolation. Programs that can prevent or manage these problems from the patients home are at the forefront of medicine today. Web based technology holds great promise in this area because of its interactivity, easy access, availability throughout the day, and low cost. The purpose of this IPRO is to develop a Web site or a model of a site for home-based activities and to have the site evaluated by stakeholders at Hines VA Hospital SCI Service. The seven SCI physicians and two nurse practitioners associated with this Service are very enthusiastic about meeting with students to provide their input related to any Web platforms that may be created. Specific tasks for the project include: (1) Structure of the site to incorporate such elements as: (a) One secure Home Web page with additional secure Web pages for each patient, (b) Web pages for each of a patients problems and programs for management, (c) Access by care givers to the patients Web pages for monitoring, feedback and communication with the patient; (2) A database that includes: (a) Data from structured questionnaires (already developed) related to secondary complications. Patients would be expected to periodically answer the questions associated with their problem areas; (b) Longitudinal summary reports of a patient's responses to easily show condition progress;(3) Two-way communications that includes: comment boxes for staff and patients to communicate or chat in each problem area;(4) Integrates standard home healthcare program components that include: These include stress management, exercise, and medication management. Informal observations of a practical and creative approach piloting Blended Library Instruction for undergraduate Civil Architecture and Engineering students, in collaboration with faculty. At Illinois Institute of Technology students don’t receive library instruction as a required class or in tandem with a composition class. Faculty will schedule one-time sessions, which ideally should be planned with a class assignment in mind, but students are rarely engaged with a one time instruction. Many have IKIA syndrome or I Know It Already syndrome. The Millennials are a group that has integrated technology into every aspect of their lives and they assume that retrieving useful or necessary information will be easy. When they discover this isn’t the case lack of time, heightened anxiety, and increased frustration can prevent them from doing their best work. By intentionally creating a similar crisis prior to library instruction, students were more interested in what they stood to gain during pending library instruction. In this presentation we will discuss: 1) A creative means of delivering library instruction to a traditionally challenging population: engineering undergraduate students 2) Qualitative information collected via multiple assignments and interpreted in a quantitative fashion, as well as our observations. 3) A method for preparing students for library instruction that can be applied in almost any discipline without asking the instructor to sacrifice class time.

Statistical monitoring of multivariable dynamic processes with state-space models
Industrial continuous processes may have a large number of process variables and are usually operated for extended periods at fixed operating points under closed-loop control, yielding process measurements that are autocorrelated, cross-correlated and collinear. A statistical process monitoring (SPM) method based on multivariate statistics and system theory is introduced to monitor the variability of such processes. The statistical model that describes the in-control variability is based on a canonical-variate (CV) stare-space model that is an equivalent representation of a vector autoregressive moving-average rime-series model. The CV state variables obtained from the state-space model are linear combinations of the past process measurements that explain the variability of the future measurements the most. Because of this distinctive feature, the CV state variables are regarded as the principal dynamic directions A T-2 statistic based on the CV state variables is used for developing an SPM procedure. Simple examples based on simulated data and an experimental application based on a high-temperature short-time milk pasteurization process illustrate advantages of the proposed SPM method.
