Show more To generate an accurate survey of temperature distribution within the furnace.  To determine a method of stacking that provides the most uniform temperature distribution.  To create an efficient and intuitive tracking system that allows the exact location of each part in the furnace to be recorded and catalogued for future reference.  To put this knowledge together to create a software package that can be used to quickly and easily generate a stacking sequence that will result in a proper heat treatment for each piece in the furnace each time.  To fulfill all IPRO requirements

Through computer simulation or prototype development, design an efficient gear train that optimizes the number of gears and minimizes the motor size based upon data obtained from previous semester’s data. The goal is to develop and simulate a gear train that can withstand 500 cycles at maximum sheet capacity. 3. Develop acoustical sound dampeners or “tune” the shredder to reduce the amount of noise created during the shredding process, leveraging information obtained from previous semesters’ data. The goal is to reduce the noise output by 10 decibels

The objectives of this group, as set forth by the sponsor, Seth Lewis of the Manhattan Group, are: 1. To determine the amount of force needed to cut 6, 8, and 10 sheets of 20 lb. paper taking into account the length and width of the shred 2. To design an efficient gear train that optimizes the number of gears and minimizes the motor size 3. To develop acoustical sound dampeners to reduce the amount of noise created during the shredding process by 10 decibels. The team will seek to accomplish these goals through the use of computer simulation, extended research, and laboratory testing and error. By the end of the semester the team anticipates having developed a mathematical model that will allow for the minimization of the amount of force used to shred various amounts of paper, to have built a gear train that works better and lasts longer, and to have noticeably reduced the amount of noise created by the shredder. The IPRO Team’s goal is to implement all of these changes to create a shredder with improved performance, reliability, and life span without increasing cost.

Show more1. Determine the amount of force to cut 6, 8, 10 sheets of 20 lb paper, taking into account the width and length of the shred. Once the amount of force is determined, develop a computer simulation model that can predict the amount of force required based upon the following variable inputs: number of sheets, shred width, and shred length. 2. Through computer simulation or prototype development, design an efficient gear train that optimizes the number of gears and minimizes the motor size based upon data obtained from previous semester’s data. The goal is to develop and simulate a gear train that can withstand 500 cycles at maximum sheet capacity. 3. Develop acoustical sound dampeners or “tune” the shredder to reduce the amount of noise created during the shredding process, leveraging information obtained from previous semesters’ data. The goal is to reduce the noise output by 10 decibels

Show moreThe objective of this team will be to improve safety, performance and evaluate/design an implementation for the reduction of noise emission from the sample of Paper Shredder Prototypes provided to us by “The Manhattan Group”, project sponsor. Another objective of this team is to evaluate the current market offerings and price points and create new industrial designs for a line of paper shredders that could be sold at retail stores such as Staples, Target, or Office Depot. Designs should focus on a new feature or style.
