A number of the greystone buildings visible served as Illinois Tech fraternity houses, including, at the far left of the photograph, Brown Hall, the Delta Tau Delta House, and the Phi Kappa Sigma house. At the far right of the photograph, the buildings are believed to include the Alpha Sigma Phi house, the Triangle House, and the Pi Kappa Phi house. These buildings were all demolished between ca. 1959-1963 as the block was cleared for the construction of new Illinois Tech dormitories. Brown Hall during demolition in 1961. The building was designed by Francis M. Whitehouse of Burling & Whitehouse and was located at 3254 South Michigan Avenue. Once known as Cudahy mansion, this building was purchased in 1939 for graduate students. It served as one of IIT's Naval housing quarters from approximately 1943-45. After World War II, the building housed graduate students and, from 1948-61, the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Formerly known as Cudahy Mansion (1880s-1919) , Chicago Motor Club (1919-1929), Quarters 2 (1943-1946), Graduate House (1939-1943, 1946-1948), Brown House (1950s), Brown Hall. Show less

Show morePhotograph of the buildings that once formed the east side of Illinois Institute of Technology's greek quadrangle, the Alpha Epsilon Pi, Theta Xi, and Tau Epsilon Phi houses, with Gunsaulus Hall visible. These three fraternity houses were designed by the architecture firm Mittelbusher & Tourtelot and constructed in 1960. The Alpha Epsilon Pi house (foreground) was demolished in 2007. The former Theta Xi house (middle) became the Alpha Sigma Alpha house ca. 2000, and the former Tau Epsilon Phi house (rear) was the law house for a brief period, and became the Kappa Phi Delta house in 2004.
