Show moreThe IPRO goal was to design a process for the production of the biotherapeutic compound IFN-Alpha from Chinese Hamster ovaries. After the process design was complete, a process flow diagram showing the actual process and separation steps was created and finally an economic analysis of the market feasibility of the product was prepared. The approach to the IPRO involved dividing the objectives into three major groups: (1) the Che 496 group was involved in the process design and the separation processes; (2) the Che 296 group was involved in the public perception of biotechnology, the useful products from biotechnology and the survey of the commercial biotherapeutic compounds; and (3) the 435 group was involved with the history of biotherapeutics, classification and actions infernos and the companies involved in the production of therapeutics. The individual members of these groups are seen on the team list below.

Show moreThe Solar Decathlon is an international collegiate competition where 20 student teams design, build, and showcase small, energy-efficient, solar-powered homes on the Washington Mall for two weeks every other year. The houses, unconnected to any central power, sewage, or plumbing lines, must fully accommodate the equivalent of a “typical American family” for the duration of the competition. The Request for Proposal for the 2011 Solar Decathlon will be released at the conclusion of the October 2009 event. The teams selected for the competition will be awarded $100,000 over two years to aid in construction costs and support the Solar Decathlon's research goal of reducing the cost of solarpowered homes and advancing solar technology.
