Show moreThe overall aim of the project is to improve and enhance the image of IIT, both as an institution and a physical campus, as regards sustainability and “green” practices. To that end, the current semester is focused on several design projects based on concepts generated in the previous semester. These projects will then be analyzed regarding their appeal, both direct and methodological, to other members of the IIT community in order to inform the best model for sustainability develop to be promoted by future semesters of this project.

Show moreThe IPRO 337 team’s objectives for this semester are to make further progress in updating the top floor of Machinery Hall into a lab for future energy and lighting technology research. The research conducted this semester will help us transform the space into a more sustainable working environment. Since the ultimate goal is rather ambitious, our goal for this particular semester is to implement an energy plan which will become the basis off of which the future IPRO’s will continue towards the ultimate goal. We also intend to clear the space so that the developed plan can be tested.

Show more• Incorporation of energy efficient lighting technologies into an existing 6,000 sq ft space, thereby adding to the transformation of the space into a new useful zero-energy lab. • Testing and measurement of energy consuming Devices that are scaled for renewable energy systems such as photovoltaic, battery storage, and fuel cells. • Demonstration of the use of day lighting for ambient light. Demonstration of use of low energy consuming systems for task lighting and night time lighting. • Development of low energy consuming lighting systems including fixture mock ups, lamp mock ups, day lighting harvesting systems, fiber optic day light utilization systems, fixtures utilizing LED, low wattage fluorescent and direct and indirect lighting fixture design.
