Show moreA method is provided for microbial enhanced oil recovery, wherein a combination of microorganisms is empirically formulated based on survivability under reservoir conditions and oil recovery efficiency, such that injection of the microbial combination may be made, in the presence of essentially only nutrient solution, directly into an injection well of an oil bearing reservoir having oil present at waterflood residual oil saturation concentration. The microbial combination is capable of displacing residual oil from reservoir rock, which oil may be recovered by waterflooding without causing plugging of the reservoir rock. Further, the microorganisms are capable of being transported through the pores of the reservoir rock between said injection well and associated production wells, during waterflooding, which results in a larger area of the reservoir being covered by the oil-mobilizing microorganisms. Show moreThe present invention relates to a system for detecting misuse of authorized access to a digital data gathering system by a user. User behavior is monitored as to the search queries, the search results, or both. When a valid record of normal user behavior is obtained, each new query and result for the user can be compared to the record to determine if anomalous activity has occurred. Show moreComposite materials composed of organic and inorganic substances of the general formulation MO(O.sub.2 C--C.sub.6 H.sub.4 --CO.sub.2), wherein M is a transition metal, and a method for producing the composite materials. The structure of these materials includes at least one column of an array of transition metal oxides, the column having corner-sharing octahedra interlinked with spacer organic chelating ligands. The inorganic-organic hybrid materials are likely to exhibit properties not encountered in pure inorganic and organic substances. Show moreImproved methods and apparatus are disclosed for confining ohmic heating currents to a subsurface formation in the use of in situ ohmic heating for recovery of volatile and semi-volatile materials, such as hazardous waste, hydrocarbon-like materials, and valuable minerals having thermally responsive properties. Spacing between emplaced electrodes and the number of electrodes employed are controlled to cause coupling between electrodes for more uniform and higher temperature heating. Electrode designs are disclosed which suppress spurious earth currents which would heat other formations not of interest. Suppression of electrode end currents is accomplished by the use of distinct rings of insulation, control of the applied potential along the electrode, and injection or withdrawal of fluids at distinct locations along the electrode. Show moreIn the illustrated embodiments a rotary head indexing cam has a power drive train releasably coupled therewith for automatic head indexing with a manual channel selector driven by the power drive train during automatic indexing while being manually operable to select a given channel independently of the drive train. A fine channel adjustment control is operable to shift the indexing cam axially for fine adjustment of head position relative to a selected channel. A latch retaining the capstan drive in operating position is mechanically released as the head completes scanning of a succession of chennels (sic) on the record tape. Capstan pressure rollers on hinged arms are swung through an open end of an endless loop cartridge to engage the record tape with the capstan, a predetermined bias being applied to the pressure rollers to press the same toward the capstan in the operating position.
