Show moreThe aim of this thesis is to revitalize suburban subdivisions not by destroying existing typology but by using the typical cookie cutter homes as a basis for re-envisioning subdivisions. By creating key room components, existing homes can expand outward to provide additional rooms for current family members, for older generations moving back home and/or for additional rental spaces as a way to supplement income. The end result creates unique spaces and courtyards that places the resident much closer to nature.

Show moreBasing on the plan of Lake Meadow re-development, the proposal of Prairie Shore residential area will meet the demand of the raising population, which will be a mixed used, mid desity of residents plan. The idea behind this proposal is trying to integrate programs to the housing plan which could also enhance the connection between people and the city. Each of the housing takes advantage of the site facing Lake Michigan and sunshine, the amenities and programs located on the ground level of building courtyard, supply the service of residents living by, while on the 31st street there are several types of commercial areas which will also contribute the vitality to this community.

Show moreWhat if the school were more like a playground; a laboratory for exploration and discovery? What if the place itself actually inspired the students within it? My proposal for a new primary school in Chicago attempts to become such a place. With an emphasis on wellness and ecologically based practices the school becomes a teaching tool. Featuring a diverse range of flexible interior and exterior spaces, the building supports different learning environments. The school also encourages community involvement through shared resources and volunteer opportunities. The project becomes more than a school; an integral part of the neighborhood and place to experience learning.

Show moreThis community center was designed to make connections between the different generations to create a truly united community, not just a neighborhood. Each generation has something that they can bring to others, but this rarely happens because each generation normally congregates together, which isolates themselves from the others. The community center provides opportunities to create these connections. These opportunities will be through Music, Fitness, Art and Education.

Show moreMONUMENTAL ADAPTATION: REIMAGINING THE OLD CHICAGO POST OFFICE Built in 1932, the Old Chicago Main Post Office was the largest post office in the world at three million square feet. It was designed to accommodate the extension of Congress Parkway and in 1953 the Eisenhower Expressway cut a void through the center of the building. Finally the Post Office was vacated in 1997 and remains unused to this day. This project proposes the adaptation of the Post Office into a hybrid fieldhouse that contains public recreation and retail space. This proposal keeps the Post Office public, utilizing income generated through retail to maintain the building for Chicagoans. Recreation program is inserted into voids carved out of the original building. Retail occupies the peripheral space, surrounding the voids.

Show moreNorth Carolina State University is one of the leading land grant institutions and public research universities in the country. However, its rapidly growing size and required travel distance in-between campuses necessitate drastically improved transit connections. Current plans are in place for the construction of a rapid transit corridor through campus along with commuter and light rail transit. The Master’s Project will focus on the main multimodal center for this transportation network, the North Carolina State University Rapid Transit Center.

Show moreThis project is a contemporary revisit of the ideas behind Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian houses. The building consists of three separate dwelling units on the same lot, a variation from the typical Chicago three-flat in that, rather than the three units being stacked one on top of the other, they are ordered linearly one after the other. The primary advantage of this arrangement is that each unit is allowed access to the ground floor, and to one of the three designated courtyard areas.

However, as department store, big mart and hotels comes around the market. It has lost its competitiveness And this place will be developed as tourist complex area. My goal is to redevelop its original role as market and provide public space for customers and tourist.

Show moreThe Exchange Project proposes the physical framework to enable a transformation of existing industrial related infrastructure, a different way to understand the city and the way we live in it at the pedestrian level. The project primarily is a connective element to unite surrounding communities as well as the conversion of an unused building. Physically, the proposition of the connective element manifests itself as an eco-boulevard, looking at a new interaction between surrounding community and a mostly absent natural environment. This begins by rethinking surface and its uses including green spaces, parks, farming, gardening, playgrounds and open space primarily used for industry.

Show moreThe school is a proposal for high-level academic performance in the form of an art condenser that will also be used after hours to house community art events. Thus, it will act as a catalyst for future college students and serve as a magnet for neighborhood residents. As the art disciplines require, the classroom and their respective studio are integrated and considered as the basic unit that define different volumes for each art form. The massing, orientation, and materiality bring a unique quality of light to those “volumes of light”.

Show moreI am proposing to create a student housing hub for the various architectural colleges within the city of Chicago (IIT, UIC, SAIC & Colombia College). I am imagining not only making a physical connection but also creating a digital environment where students can collaborate, network and share ideas at their leisure. The phrase “living-learning environment”, comes to mind when thinking of my project, with so many advancements in technology, within architecture and within the public domain our learning has extended beyond the classroom. Although these schools were chosen primarily for their architectural distinction, the hub will welcome students across all disciplines.
