Show moreI am proposing to create a student housing hub for the various architectural colleges within the city of Chicago (IIT, UIC, SAIC & Colombia College). I am imagining not only making a physical connection but also creating a digital environment where students can collaborate, network and share ideas at their leisure. The phrase “living-learning environment”, comes to mind when thinking of my project, with so many advancements in technology, within architecture and within the public domain our learning has extended beyond the classroom. Although these schools were chosen primarily for their architectural distinction, the hub will welcome students across all disciplines.

Show moreC-ward is the neighborhood (in Mumbai) that was designed and developed around 1940 and thereafter there has been no or very little improvement in infrastructure, which has led to narrow street, unsafe pedestrian and limited open space. C-ward in one of the most prime real-estate location considering it right next to financial district , close to major train station and close to Shoreline. ROMF (Remaking of Mumbai Federation) has taken the initiative to develop the C-ward and the project site part of ROMF development area. City centers have always been source of density because of scarcity of land. The sensible and effective use of such land would be to build vertical (high-rise) and also to have the possibility of expansion for the future development. A mixed use high rise development diversifies the use of space within a single building structure. Combination of living, entertainment, shopping and lodging in single urban structure, helps to utilize the full potential of an urban site.

The idea behind this proposal is trying to integrate programs to the housing plan which could also enhance the connection between people and the city. Each of the housing takes advantage of the site facing Lake Michigan and sunshine, the amenities and programs located on the ground level of building courtyard, supply the service of residents living by, while on the 31st street there are several types of commercial areas which will also contribute the vitality to this community.

It will also help to educate and train the young tribesmen so they can contribute their knowledge to their local tribes. Architecturally, site planning, landscape design and using the traditional local materials with modern construction techniques were explored.

This site also provided a connection to the existing Tri-Main Center which allows public display space for artistic individuals. An infrastructural addition over the existing railway system provided additional outdoor space labeled a 'social alley' that connected Main Street and Jewett Avenue and provided more creative space between the Tri-Main Center and the new Arts Node.
