Show more"The Memory Step" is a public library combined with a community center. The project is located in an urban area that has lost much of its character over time. Time has several important meanings that include tradition, history and discovery of unique characteristics - in other words, culture. Culture provides a city with a unique identity and as software, it provides city with diversity. Placing the project within this specific area will act as a catalyst to revitalize the cultural and social identity and regenerate the unique urban fabric. The project is based upon three principles : Identity, relationship, and Community.

Show moreThe aim of this thesis is to revitalize suburban subdivisions not by destroying existing typology but by using the typical cookie cutter homes as a basis for re-envisioning subdivisions. By creating key room components, existing homes can expand outward to provide additional rooms for current family members, for older generations moving back home and/or for additional rental spaces as a way to supplement income. The end result creates unique spaces and courtyards that places the resident much closer to nature.

Show moreThe proposed master’s project is the exploration of how architectural planning and design can improve and increase efficiency in transitional housing during emergency relief and/or conflict related situations. The project proposal developed through design exploration of several prototypes that would not only be minimal but will also be culturally and climatically adaptive among other things. After a thorough select ion process, concentration was given to arid/dry climate and the area select ed for study was Darfur, Sudan.

Show moreCity is made up of diversity and density. Diverse factors make activities and different relationships in a city. These are very sensitive to other factors’ changes. Their various responses make city dynamic and finally characterize the face of a city or a town. Buildings are one of dynamic factors in a city. The building facade which determines building’s identity marks the transition between outside and inside. The facade has a strong relationship between building programs and urban activities. Their looks make a huge effect on urban environment. But buildings’ configuration is fixed once design choices are made. Buildings are conceived as a rigid objects and inflexible, unresponsive, and unsustainable. Considering that buildings are the largest contributor to the city environment, building should be responsive to changes and facade performance should be more active to building programs. Adaptive building facade will be the means that can address these challenges.

Show moreThis project is investigating the change in urban dwelling typologies when an impassable perimeter is placed around a city for future social and environmental reasons. I will work in two phases first establishing how the city might change and then designing a living unit which addresses the needs of those transplanted and fits into this new closed city.

Show moreThe purpose of this study is to interpret the topic of adaptive reuse, focusing on the reuse of existing buildings and new structures inserted into them. The issues related with adaptive reuse are not a new field in architecture but is related to previous practices such as preservation and conservation. Focusing on the issue of adaptive reuse in order for existing structures to cover the new needs of an emerging society, giving a new use. Other disciplines, such as social and political are forming and guiding those decisions. The topic of what to keep and what to discard is global and various solutions has been given in the past years, focusing on monuments and landmarks conservation, preservation or practices of adaptation in the cities history. The research analysis in various scales, engaging the site to its surrounding, through neighborhood analysis and its urban context are important. Understanding the problem means focusing the research not only on the aspect of architecture agenda since there are political and social practices engaging with the transformation. It means focusing on the issue of adaptive reuse as an important cultural topic related with social, political and economic factors.
