Show moreBy refashioning the design and programmatic use of an offshore oil rig into a luxury hotel for ecotourists, a new age of responsible travel may emerge. By twisting the symbol of oil dependency into an ecologically preserved, environmentally accountable and revenue-producing prototype, the ideals of reuse, energy and environment can be viewed through a new lens. This design creates interesting and innovative living spaces and environments aided by sustainable integrations to create a “living machine” that establishes connections between all building systems as well as inhabitant inputs and outputs resulting in an energy independent habitat. Show more"The Memory Step" is a public library combined with a community center. The project is located in an urban area that has lost much of its character over time. Time has several important meanings that include tradition, history and discovery of unique characteristics - in other words, culture. Culture provides a city with a unique identity and as software, it provides city with diversity. Placing the project within this specific area will act as a catalyst to revitalize the cultural and social identity and regenerate the unique urban fabric. The project is based upon three principles : Identity, relationship, and Community. Show less

Show moreDemolishing a concrete building that is structurally sound is ecologically wasteful and irresponsible. With the many advantages concrete offers and rising energy costs, there needs to be a way that existing and structurally sound, concrete buildings can be reused. This explored method for concrete reuse depends heavily on technological advances in the foreseeable future that allow for the process to be accomplished efficiently and for the material to be preserved for a longer period of time. Show moreThe aim of this thesis is to revitalize suburban subdivisions not by destroying existing typology but by using the typical cookie cutter homes as a basis for re-envisioning subdivisions. By creating key room components, existing homes can expand outward to provide additional rooms for current family members, for older generations moving back home and/or for additional rental spaces as a way to supplement income. The end result creates unique spaces and courtyards that places the resident much closer to nature. Show less

Show moreInspired by a need for personal space in a fast paced, highly mobile world, the nomad project combines the mobility and strength of a pickup truck with the convenience of a small living space. By combining a work space, kitchen, sleeping area and bathroom, this project allows this compact space to allow for the comforts of a home to be available wherever a person can travel. This exploration of the duality of interior space experiments with the folding of program space from a collapsible set of planes to a space which can be used in daily life. Show less

Show moreWhat if the school were more like a playground; a laboratory for exploration and discovery? What if the place itself actually inspired the students within it? My proposal for a new primary school in Chicago attempts to become such a place. With an emphasis on wellness and ecologically based practices the school becomes a teaching tool. Featuring a diverse range of flexible interior and exterior spaces, the building supports different learning environments. The school also encourages community involvement through shared resources and volunteer opportunities. The project becomes more than a school; an integral part of the neighborhood and place to experience learning. Show less
