Show moreThe annual steel bridge competition is sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Students will design and construct a steel bridge based on specifications provided by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). For design analysis, a computer program such as SAP 2000 may be used. After the design is finalized, students will develop shop drawings of the bridge and connection details using AUTOCAD. Fabrication of the bridge is based on theses drawings. The team will participate in a competition held on campus of a university in the Great Lakes region and judged based on AISC criteria. A team that competes successfully can benefit from students from several disciplines beyond civil engineering since there are significant tasks involving marketing, fundraising, preparing documentation, and organizing and delivering a compelling presentation.
