Show moreSystems for improved vehicular movement between first and second crossing roadways. The systems employ multiple turn roadways to permit a vehicle traveling on one of the crossing roadways to appropriately turn and continuously travel onto the other of the crossing roadway. The systems are adaptable to use in conjunction with either left side of the road vehicle movement or right side of the road vehicle movement. In addition, the systems can be adapted for use in conjunction a roadway crossing whereat at least one of the roads is for forwarded vehicle movement in only one direction. Show moreA method of controlling a DC/DC converter to regulate an output voltage from an input voltage source that varies from a fully-charged voltage to a discharged voltage. The method introduced improves the dynamic response of the converter during transients by switching between different converter topologies to spread out voltage spikes, which are an inevitable result of transients. The invention also can improve the efficiency of the DC/DC converter by replacing higher loss modes with combination modes. Show moreA magnetic tape apparatus wherein a capstan drive assembly provides a tape path thereabout and receives a transducer head with a convex face for scanning engagement with the tape. A magnetic shield may be interposed between the capstan and the head where the capstan is of magnetizable steel. The motor, flywheel and capstan form a unitary assembly which preferably includes a bearing for the outer end of the capstan. A endless loop or reel-to-reel tape cartridge configuration may be engaged with the capstan assembly without manual threading. Idler rollers for the capstan are of configuration to tension the tape at the transducer head location, and may be interchanged to tension the tape in either direction of movement. A preferred head is operable with bias of 10 megahertz or more. Sponsorship: IIT Research Institute United States Patent Show less

Show moreThis invention relates to the metallurgy of iron and particularly to the separation and recovery of metals from electric arc furnace (EAF) dusts. While the invention discloses a process for the separation and recovery applicable to zinc, lead, cadmium and antimony contained in such EAF dusts, the invention is particularly applicable to the separation and recovery of zinc. This invention describes a method for reducing the zinc contained in an EAF dust, volatilizing the metallic zinc so produced from the mass of the dust, and reoxidizing the metallic zinc to zinc oxide along with the simultaneous regeneration of hydrogen which can be recycled to treat additional EAF dust. Show moreA method for controlling multiple access of a transmission channel wherein a plurality of different patterns are assigned to a plurality of sending stations so that each sending station corresponds to a unique pattern, preferably a pattern represented by a Binomial coefficient. Each unique pattern is transmitted from a corresponding sending station to the transmission channel by way of a control minislot. Ternary feedback is received from the control minislot. A summation of different patterns within each control minislot are analyzed to detect whether a collision exists between the different patterns within each control minislot.
