A number of the greystone buildings visible served as Illinois Tech fraternity houses, including, at the far left of the photograph, Brown Hall, the Delta Tau Delta House, and the Phi Kappa Sigma house. At the far right of the photograph, the buildings are believed to include the Alpha Sigma Phi house, the Triangle House, and the Pi Kappa Phi house. These buildings were all demolished between ca. 1959-1963 as the block was cleared for the construction of new Illinois Tech dormitories. Show morePhotograph of Armour Flats, located at 3322 Armour Avenue (now Federal Street). Designed by the architecture firm Patton & Fisher, and constructed in 1886, Armour Flats was a 194-unit apartment building constructed to house Armour meatpacking company employees. It later provided living quarters for Armour Institute faculty. In 1907, six sections of the building were christened Chapin Hall for use by Armour Institute. When the majority of the building was torn down in 1917 and 1919, Chapin Hall remained. Chapin Hall and the Physics Building were demolished in 1968. Date of photograph is unknown.
