Show moreAs Latino immigrant families assimilate in to U.S. Society there is the risk that future generations will not learn about their history, culture and traditions. Many Latin people born in the United States do not learn about their heritage, they just adapt to the American lifestyle. There is a need for new infrastructure that works as cultural exchange and support for this community. This Cultural Center is intended to be part of the existing downtown cultural infrastructure. The idea is to include it as part of the cultural and educational organizations in order to integrate it with tourism. Show less

Show moreThis project is a contemporary revisit of the ideas behind Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian houses. The building consists of three separate dwelling units on the same lot, a variation from the typical Chicago three-flat in that, rather than the three units being stacked one on top of the other, they are ordered linearly one after the other. The primary advantage of this arrangement is that each unit is allowed access to the ground floor, and to one of the three designated courtyard areas. Show less

Show moreThis Project is an urban renewal of an abandoned post-industrial land in the calumet region located on Chicago’s far southeast. The Calumet region was once the largest and richest wetland in lower north America, but 120 years of intensive industrialization, pollution and waste disposal tailored the ecosystem of this region and resulted in thousands of acres of brownfields. Show moreThis project aimed to create efficient housing for the average American with the ability to customize their home to their own needs, lifestyle, and aesthetics. In addition, the feasibility of pre-fabricated portions of the home made this more realistic in terms of cost and the quickness of its construct-ability for each potential home owner. Show less

Show moreThe inspiration to develop a vertical urban school originates from rising urban density and the lack of interconnection and identity in some urban environments. The urban condition is a construct of rhythm, memory, and the sensory. This condition is illuminated through the dense activity and interaction of city life. This scheme embraces the layers of activity and vibrancies inherent in the operation of schools and cities. Show less

Show moreTHE FAÇADE HAS THE HIGHEST POTENTIAL WHEN TRYING TO OPTIMIZE THE ENERGY PERFORMANCE OF A BUILDING. THE MAIN GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO INVESTIGATE WHAT IS THE VALUE OF FACADE RETROFIT AND STUDY THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERFORMANCE, WEIGHT, EMBODIED ENERGY, ASSEMBLY EFFORT, COST AND POTENTIAL SAVINGS. 4 DIFFERENT FACADE SYSTEMS ARE ANALYZED AND COMPARED IN THE CONTEXT OF AN EXISTING BUILDING. ONE OF THE SYSTEMS IS CURRENTLY INSTALLED AND HAS BEEN RECENTLY RETROFITTED, WHILE THE OTHER THREE ARE DESIGN PROPOSALS WHICH FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS: PERFORMANCE AND DAYLIGHT, MINIMAL STRUCTURE AND ADAPTABILITY. Show moreA prefabricated home with componentry optimized for simple fabrication and human-scale labor. This project explores the benefits of linking digital design and prefabrication to maximize construction efficiency and minimize on-site delays. Its physically remote location also necessitates a highly light and mobile solution that is simple in construction. Show less

Show moreto create a vertical community bound together by two key issues/requirements in Korean society: urban agriculture and mental health care to create a ‘vertical façade farm’ capable of producing 156 tons of vegetables (predominantly lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and strawberries) and 200 tons of fish per year to create a mental health sanctuary (or sanatorium) that provides short term (days), midterm (months) and long term (years) residence and care for people with mental health issues that may require physical operations and/or psychological care. to actively engage the mental health residents in aspects of the agricultural production to draw on research showing that engagement with plants/nature assists in mental healing. to create a large multi-purpose space at the ground floor of the building which will largely serve as a farmer’s market for sale of the agricultural produce and engagement between the community residents and the public to create a series of gardens/green spaces at height within the complex, as well as vertical green walls, for healing (residents and urban issues) to use the double-skin ‘façade farm’ for assisting in passive natural ventilation of internal spaces Show less

The nearly one-mile wide tornado cut a path almost 22 miles in length, destroying over 7,000 homes and about 2,000 other structures. Among the buildings completely destroyed during the storm was Joplin High School. The rebuilding of the school is an important step for the community to heal and grow from the devastation. The intent of the design is to improve the quality of education by incorporating collaborative learning spaces, integrating technology and promoting environmental responsibility. Show less

Show moreThe project is a revitalization and life center for people and their families living with diabetes. The goal of the facility is to provide a place to escape from everyday living. Elements to improve the knowledge and livelihoods of individuals who have been diagnosed with the disease will be implemented allowing the project to become a central node. Creating an environment that promotes relaxation and revitalization within an urban context is of great importance to the project. Partnerships with relative medical facilities will establish a client base and ease the access to the facility. If used successfully, the project could be a cornerstone to multiple facilities across the country. Show less

Show moreThis community center was designed to make connections between the different generations to create a truly united community, not just a neighborhood. Each generation has something that they can bring to others, but this rarely happens because each generation normally congregates together, which isolates themselves from the others. The community center provides opportunities to create these connections. These opportunities will be through Music, Fitness, Art and Education. Show less
