Show moree.N.U.P.H. is an alternative typology to current suburban tract home sprawl in the American southwest. Retail shops, offices, a supermarket, plaza, and residences are combined in a courtyard building that takes advantage of mountain views to the east and south through gradually sloping forms. As an alternative to suburban homes, emphasis is placed on the generous private outdoor living area of each residence, as well as amenities like the roof, sun, and pool decks. e.N.U.P.H. preserves the Phoenician’s desire for individuality and private space with the liveliness of a public plaza in a sustainable, efficient, and medium-density desert typology.

Show moreBoundary: Sight and Access: Breaking the programmatic elements into fragments allows responding to different contextual forces. Engaging those forces to create a site-specific design can be achieved by means of porous skin and a dynamic circulation pattern that occupies boundary spaces throughout the site. This provides smoother transition moments between inside and outside on different scales; from collective urban spaces down to the building` skin.

Show moreThe purpose of this overlay is to provide the proper mechanics which allows a new type of home ownership while addressing current urban vacancy. The overlay attempts to be democratic. It establishes basic rules based on the existing block requirements, while also providing flexibility within. Residents voluntarily participate in the system, benefiting from the whole. Social interactions, block orientated activities, and housing arrangements expand and contract over time.

Show moreThe project is a revitalization and life center for people and their families living with diabetes. The goal of the facility is to provide a place to escape from everyday living. Elements to improve the knowledge and livelihoods of individuals who have been diagnosed with the disease will be implemented allowing the project to become a central node. Creating an environment that promotes relaxation and revitalization within an urban context is of great importance to the project. Partnerships with relative medical facilities will establish a client base and ease the access to the facility. If used successfully, the project could be a cornerstone to multiple facilities across the country.

Show moreHowell Mountain is a distinct and unique location in the heart of Napa Valley California. The 45 acres site rests on the mountain’s south west slopes and is planted with high quality grapes used in the production of red wine. When the fog rolls off the ocean and into the Napa Valley, the weather on Howell Mountain is generally sunny and cool. The appellation owes its distinctive climate to the fact that it is positioned high above the valley floor. The program includes both the wine production facilities and the hospitality facilities for visitors. The driving concept of the project is to merge those two, often opposing, programmatic elements. From west to east, the site has a 43% grade change. By designing a gravity flow winery, this facility can take advantage of that significant slope.

Show moreCity is made up of diversity and density. Diverse factors make activities and different relationships in a city. These are very sensitive to other factors’ changes. Their various responses make city dynamic and finally characterize the face of a city or a town. Buildings are one of dynamic factors in a city. The building facade which determines building’s identity marks the transition between outside and inside. The facade has a strong relationship between building programs and urban activities. Their looks make a huge effect on urban environment. But buildings’ configuration is fixed once design choices are made. Buildings are conceived as a rigid objects and inflexible, unresponsive, and unsustainable. Considering that buildings are the largest contributor to the city environment, building should be responsive to changes and facade performance should be more active to building programs. Adaptive building facade will be the means that can address these challenges.

Show moreBy refashioning the design and programmatic use of an offshore oil rig into a luxury hotel for ecotourists, a new age of responsible travel may emerge. By twisting the symbol of oil dependency into an ecologically preserved, environmentally accountable and revenue-producing prototype, the ideals of reuse, energy and environment can be viewed through a new lens. This design creates interesting and innovative living spaces and environments aided by sustainable integrations to create a “living machine” that establishes connections between all building systems as well as inhabitant inputs and outputs resulting in an energy independent habitat.

Show moreThis is a design for a new research station in Antarctica that also includes Antarctica's first hotel as part of the station. The emphasis is on a modular design that is easily expandable and reconfigurable in order to meet the needs of future Antarctic research and tourism demands. The end result of the project is a single 16 minute animation to demonstrate life at the station both as a daily routine and a seasonal routine, as well as the logistics of shipping and constructing the station in Antarctica.
