Show moreMONUMENTAL ADAPTATION: REIMAGINING THE OLD CHICAGO POST OFFICE Built in 1932, the Old Chicago Main Post Office was the largest post office in the world at three million square feet. It was designed to accommodate the extension of Congress Parkway and in 1953 the Eisenhower Expressway cut a void through the center of the building. Finally the Post Office was vacated in 1997 and remains unused to this day. This project proposes the adaptation of the Post Office into a hybrid fieldhouse that contains public recreation and retail space. This proposal keeps the Post Office public, utilizing income generated through retail to maintain the building for Chicagoans. Recreation program is inserted into voids carved out of the original building. Retail occupies the peripheral space, surrounding the voids.

Show moreC-ward is the neighborhood (in Mumbai) that was designed and developed around 1940 and thereafter there has been no or very little improvement in infrastructure, which has led to narrow street, unsafe pedestrian and limited open space. C-ward in one of the most prime real-estate location considering it right next to financial district , close to major train station and close to Shoreline. ROMF (Remaking of Mumbai Federation) has taken the initiative to develop the C-ward and the project site part of ROMF development area. City centers have always been source of density because of scarcity of land. The sensible and effective use of such land would be to build vertical (high-rise) and also to have the possibility of expansion for the future development. A mixed use high rise development diversifies the use of space within a single building structure. Combination of living, entertainment, shopping and lodging in single urban structure, helps to utilize the full potential of an urban site.

Show moreNorth Carolina State University is one of the leading land grant institutions and public research universities in the country. However, its rapidly growing size and required travel distance in-between campuses necessitate drastically improved transit connections. Current plans are in place for the construction of a rapid transit corridor through campus along with commuter and light rail transit. The Master’s Project will focus on the main multimodal center for this transportation network, the North Carolina State University Rapid Transit Center.

Show moreThis project is a contemporary revisit of the ideas behind Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian houses. The building consists of three separate dwelling units on the same lot, a variation from the typical Chicago three-flat in that, rather than the three units being stacked one on top of the other, they are ordered linearly one after the other. The primary advantage of this arrangement is that each unit is allowed access to the ground floor, and to one of the three designated courtyard areas.

Show moreThis Project is an urban renewal of an abandoned post-industrial land in the calumet region located on Chicago’s far southeast. The Calumet region was once the largest and richest wetland in lower north America, but 120 years of intensive industrialization, pollution and waste disposal tailored the ecosystem of this region and resulted in thousands of acres of brownfields.

Show moreThe Exchange Project proposes the physical framework to enable a transformation of existing industrial related infrastructure, a different way to understand the city and the way we live in it at the pedestrian level. The project primarily is a connective element to unite surrounding communities as well as the conversion of an unused building. Physically, the proposition of the connective element manifests itself as an eco-boulevard, looking at a new interaction between surrounding community and a mostly absent natural environment. This begins by rethinking surface and its uses including green spaces, parks, farming, gardening, playgrounds and open space primarily used for industry.

Show moreThe school is a proposal for high-level academic performance in the form of an art condenser that will also be used after hours to house community art events. Thus, it will act as a catalyst for future college students and serve as a magnet for neighborhood residents. As the art disciplines require, the classroom and their respective studio are integrated and considered as the basic unit that define different volumes for each art form. The massing, orientation, and materiality bring a unique quality of light to those “volumes of light”.

The developed project wants to activate and change this deteriorate site into a place where people can came together and be aware of the new discoveries for green technologies and also can beneficiate of the outdoor space that incorporate lots of activities year-round. A bike and a pedestrian path are proposed to link two existent streets from the opposite neighborhoods and also to activate the site. The building, composed of two structures, is anchored along the path to reinforce it and also to create a reference point to everything ales on the site. The two proposed buildings represent a Research Center for Green Technologies with a training center and an Exhibit / Community space. These two structures are linked together through the RED TWIST element which guides the interested eye from the entrance at the south side, all the way to the North side. The twist serves as a floor for the first building and then chances and becomes the roof of the second building. In the end through all this elements implemented on the site, the project hopes to be a success for bringing people together into a pleasant environment, to an interesting / interactive building that allows visitors to be explored .
