The building to the north of the field, a former residence, served as a cafeteria in the early 20th century before being converted to a fieldhouse in 1933, then an Armour Research Foundation magnetic recording laboratory in 1947. Main Building is located at 3300 South Federal Street, and was made a Chicago landmark in 2004. The campus' original heating plant was housed in the extension to the south of the Main Building.
