Show moreThe modern conceptualization of delusional ideation is that it is a multidimensional construct that lies on a continuum with normality. Higher levels of delusional ideation have been associated with lower levels of quality of life. In contrast, higher levels of mindfulness have been related to higher levels of quality of life. This study examined the associations among delusional ideation, mindfulness, and quality of life in a community sample (N = 493). Correlation and mediation analyses were conducted to examine 1) the association between delusional ideation and mindfulness, 2) the association between .mindfulness and quality of life, and 3) whether the association between delusional ideation and quality of life was mediated by mindfulness. Results supported study hypotheses, indicating that delusional ideation was negatively associated with mindfulness and quality of life and that mindfulness was positively associated with quality of life. In addition, mindfulness mediated the relation between delusional ideation and quality of life. Findings have important implications for treatment and prevention efforts. Mindfulness may be an important goal for intervention in order to lessen the impact of delusional ideation in reducing quality of life. M.S. in Psychology, December 2014 Show less
