Show morePersonal Digital Assistants (PDAs), cellular phones, and other wireless devices represent the new paradigm for personal communication and interactivity. This project would involve the creation of an application (or series of applications) that would enable secure access to corporate databases via these devices. Hence, individuals such as consultants working in remote locations can submit timesheets, access corporate knowledge centers etc. While salespeople or contractors can access inventory nformation, request inventory or service conveniently, without the hustle involved in, for example, booting up a laptop, dialing into the corporate network and then performing these tasks. The end result may be a lightweight corporate portal that can be accessed using these wireless devices. This project will give students an opportunity to explore new media devices other than those already being studied in the curriculum (i.e., PCs, and application development for PCs). This will also provide students, specifically within engineering, with insight into the new wireless standards currently being tested, e.g. GSM vs. CDMA vs. TDMA vs. 3G technology, for content provision on cellular phones.
