- Affordable and Sustainable Water Solution for Under-Privileged Communities In India (Semester Unknown) EnPRO 355
- India’s huge and growing population is putting severe strain on all of the country’s natural resources. Most water sources are used on a domestic, industrial and agricultural basis. The quality of the water used is presumed to be the major problem that the people face, but the real problem is the quantity of water supplied. Quite a few organizations have been engaged with supplying drinking water to the community, but still not enough to address the needs of all the different sectors of the community, especially irrigation. In order to increase the availability of water to the people, it is necessary that the people have alternative means of supply of water, and a strong sense of the value of water., Deliverables

- Imaging Method Based on Attenuation, Refraction and Ultra-Small-Angle-Scattering of X-Rays
- A method for detecting an image of an object by measuring the intensity at a plurality of positions of a transmitted beam of x-ray radiation emitted from the object as a function of angle within the transmitted beam. The intensity measurements of the transmitted beam are obtained by a crystal analyzer positioned at a plurality of angular positions. The plurality of intensity measurements are used to determine the angular intensity spectrum of the transmitted beam. One or more parameters, such as an attenuation property, a refraction property and a scatter property, can be obtained from the angular intensity spectrum and used to display an image of the object., Sponsorship: Illinois Institute of Technology, United States Patent

- Parental Involvement Project for Bronzeville Public Schools (Spring 2003) IPRO 303: Parental Involvement Project for Bronzeville Public Schools IPRO303 Spring2003 Final Presentation
- The goal of this project is to assist our client, the Lugenia Burns Hope Center, expand an already-established parents organization serving seven of Bronzeville's public schools: Doolittle West, Dootlittle East, Raymond, Abbot, Donahue, Wells-Prep, and Mayo. This organization P.O.W.E.R. for our kids (Parents Organization Working for Educational Responsibility for our kids)--is an independent network of parents and community organizers working in concert with the Local School Councils to improve student achievement and educational opportunity. Our team will create promotional literature advertising the cause of the union, research the problems in the schools, and propose changes to the curriculum and the culture of the schools, which members of POWER and the local school councils can implement. This project gives students in the Leadership Academy an introduction to grass-roots, community organizing. Students involved with Math/Science education and the Young Women's Charter School might join the team to advise our client on best classroom practices. Students of public policy, law, political science, and architecture would be challenged to place the problems of the schools within the context of city, state, and federal policies on education, housing, land-use and other aspects related to the vitality of healthy neighborhoods. Should students of psychology join the project, they might help the team understand those aspects of human motivation and behavior required for building of human capital in low income communities. And, of course, students of technical communication, design, and internet communications, finally, would not only be valuable additions to the team because of their interests in web site and document design, but because of their interests in constructing persuasive texts. In general, students with an interest in making a difference in the surrounding, IIT community would have an opportunity to work with community leaders who likewise want to see Bronzeville's public schools better serve their children., Sponsorship: IIT Collaboratory for Interprofessional Studies, Project Plan for IPRO 303: Parental Involvement Project for Bronzeville Public Schools for Spring 2003 semester

- Delta Hook Tech (Semester Unknown) IPRO 358
- During the summer 2009 semester, IPRO 358 plans to develop mock-ups of the Delta Hook Technology (DHT) and to lay the foundation for a business model for Sparrowhawk, LLC, an early stage company. Sparrowhawk has investigated the concept for an innovative fishing hook that is not currently on the market or ready to be launched. The IPRO team will work together to approach the process of designing mock-ups of the Delta Hook Technology (DHT), testing the mock-ups, and determining measures that can be taken to improve the DHT. Subsequent mock-ups will continue to improve based on results of the product testing. Simultaneously, we will do market research in order to identify the target market, determine price points, and develop marketing strategies for DHT., Sponsorship: Sparrowhawk, Delta Hook Technologies, Deliverables

- Enhancing the Reliability and Performance of Paper Shredders (semester?), IPRO 321
- The objective of this team will be to improve safety, performance and evaluate/design an implementation for the reduction of noise emission from the sample of Paper Shredder Prototypes provided to us by “The Manhattan Group”, project sponsor. Another objective of this team is to evaluate the current market offerings and price points and create new industrial designs for a line of paper shredders that could be sold at retail stores such as Staples, Target, or Office Depot. Designs should focus on a new feature or style., Sponsorship: Seth Lewis, President, The Manhattan Group, Deliverables for IPRO 321: Enhancing the Reliability and Performance of Paper Shredders for the Spring 2007 semester

- Enhancing Psychology Research through Advanced Communications Technology (semester?), IPRO 306
- IPRO 306’s overall objective is to augment existing knowledge regarding the patterns and accuracies of retrospective recall of affect in the clinically depressed. This will be done by evaluating recall accuracy in the nonhospitalized clinically depressed population and comparing it to that of the nonclinical population. The specific objective of the Fall 2006 semester is to recruit twenty-five depressed and twenty-five nondepressed controls through advertisement, screen them, train them in the use of PDAs and collect data on their momentary affect rating., Deliverables for the IPRO 306: Enhancing Psychology Research through Advanced Communications Technology for the Fall 2006 semester

- Method for Recovery of Viscous Hydrocarbons by Electromagnetic Heating In Situ
- A method of electromagnetic heating in situ recovers liquid hydrocarbons from an earth formation containing viscous hydrocarbonaceous liquid and water in an inorganic matrix where the formation is substantially impermeable to fluids under native conditions. A block of the earth formation is substantially uniformly heated with electromagnetic power to a temperature at which the viscous hydrocarbonaceous liquid is relatively fluid and a portion of the water vaporizes to water vapor at a pressure sufficient to overcome the capillary pressure of the liquid in the matrix. Water vapor thereupon escaping from the block under such pressure is recovered with hydrocarbonaceous liquid driven thereby. The magnitude of the electromagnetic power is controlled to limit the current recovery ratio of water vapor to hydrocarbonaceous liquid below a predetermined limit assuring substantial recovery of the hydrocarbonaceous liquid prior to the driving off of substantially all the water., Sponsorship: IIT Research Institute, United States Patent
