  <dc:description>A data transmission and receiving network includes a plurality of nodal apparatus for sending and receiving digital data in variable length data slots. The nodal apparatus includes a storage device for maintaining a conflict resolution queue representative of nodal apparatus sending simultaneous requests for transmission causing a collision during a control minislot. The nodal apparatus also includes a transmission queue stored in the storage device. The transmission queue is indicative of nodal apparatus that have successfully transmitted during a minislot and are thus queued for transmission of data in data slots. The apparatus includes a transmitter for sending a variable length data slot signal comprising digital data in response to the state of the transmission queue. The nodal apparatus also includes a receiver for receiving a variable length data slot signal.</dc:description>
