<dc:description>Detection of ionizing radiation (X and gamma rays, proton and electron beams, etc.) has become an important technique in fields as diverse as medical imaging (CAT and PET scans), biology, chemistry, materials research, nuclear safety, particle physics, and industrial radiography. The IPRO team will research various detection techniques and construct and operate example detectors. The subject matter will include principles of radiation detection as well as associated electronics and real-time computer monitoring and control.</dc:description>
