Show moreThe goal of this IPRO research/design project is to establish an ongoing energy-based architectural studio. The studio will focus on a specific project, but in an investigative and experimental manner. The selected project is the Trump Tower, currently under design in the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. The end result of each project is expected to consist of cutting edge architectural solution, which will help provide insight into methods for integrating environmental concerns into architectural design process. The IPRO team will apply the concept of the Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system, particularly in applications used for exterior wall systems. Also wind energy will be introduced. During the semester students will be directed focusing on extensive research, data collection, elements and component design, putting this research information together and work towards a total building design. The studio will benefit from previous experiences which can be accessed http://ipro.iit.edu/~323. This project will be run in consultation with Professors Professors Mohammadi (CAE), Megri (CAE), Al Hallaj (CHEE), and faculty from mechanical engineering to be determined.
