The waters of North Central once again proved to be a “Watch
loo” for the Tech swimmers last Saturday as they were forced to
sixth place in the firsit annual Midwest Invitational Swimming
Championships. Captain Ray Klitzke fared little better in placmg

fourth in the fancy diving event.
North Central edged Beloit to win
with a total of 46 points to 44 for
the - runners—up.

Ted Erikson opened the scoring
column for HT with a third in the
initial event, the 440 yard freestyle.
A third by the medley team (com-
posed of Earl Tailgate, Gerry Zich~
terman and Ron Watson) and a
second by Gerry Zichterman in the
150 yard individual medley consti—
tuted the remainder of the scoring
by the Seals in the high point
bracket. The sole medley proved
a heartbreaker as Zichterman led
to within ten yards of the finish
only to he touched out by Koenit~
her, the hack stroke star of the
hosts.

The diving contest, which
promised to he a close fight
from the etart, left everyone
gasping as Boyler of North
Central proved himself top
man by winning over such tal-
ented men as Moksme of Be-
Ioit. Smiley of Wesleyan,
illegality and Ackerman of
Loyola, and our own Ray
lilitzke.

The diving on the part of all
was top form, with Molisnes and
Klitzke apparently leading. Once
again, however, Ackcrman slipped
through to beat the Seal’s captain,
with the Beloit ace taking sec-
ond. fimiley placed fifth with
Hegorty holding- down the bane-
merit.

The Tech mermcn thus
closed the season with a dual
meet record of 5-5 and a third
and oixth, in the two tournm
merits entered.

The ions of Captain Ray Klitzke
will lie-sorely felt. Ray has been a
stalwart of the team since his;

"freshman days.

 

His fine sports—
manship as well as his diving
ability has made him liked and
respected by all who have com—
peted with him or against him.
