Special Summer Issue | T 9 things to try before Chicago's winter Marc Sednaoui LAYOUT EDITOR Chicago is one of the most exciting places to live in the United States--from exploring downtown, to startup companies, to deep dish pizza, museums, blues music and architecture. But let’s face it; Chicago has a harsh winter that Alaska couldn’t even compete with last year. That’s why you should try at least once these summer activities before the winter season strikes again: 1. Bike Downtown Chicago: Get lost by bike in downtown Chicago. Stop to take selfies, eat some famous Deep Dish Pizza (totally recommended) and stop for a break at Millennium Park. If you don’t have a bike yet, Chicago has Divvy Bikes, 3 bike sharing system that gives you unlimited 30-minute rides per day for only seven dollars. 2. Enjoy the Beach: snve THE ”BHTE wrists i8"!!! 289% Yes, Chicago has miles of beach. You can swim in the lake and enjoy getting tanned on the sand. It is a different feeling from swimming in the sea. It is not salty; it is as if you are swimming in pure water. The beach is a must-go before winter, because the lake gets cold quickly and freezes. Cost: Free! 3. Bat from Food Trucks: Food Trucks are not available all year long. They are all over Chicago during the summer since people are more likely to be on the street. Food Trucks range from the ones that offer delicious cupcakes to the ones that make you tasty sandwiches you’ve have never tried before. Since it’s already August, @535 5:: m mass" W N ' you are right on time for the most awaited festival in Chicago: The Jazz Festival. It runs from August 28 to 31 at the Cultural Center in the Millennium Park. Cost: Free! 5. Visit Navy Pier Navy Pier is Chicago’s number one tourist attraction. You can’t come to Chicago without at least checking why Navy Pier is on top of the list. Go with your friends and enjoy a walk all the way to the end. Cost: Free! 6. Go to the Zoo Chicago has two Zoos: Lincoln Park Zoo & Brookfield Zoo. Some of the animals come out only in the summer. You have to catch them before they hibernate inside their cages. From polar bears to gorillas, you will definitely find them all. Cost: Lincoln Zoo (Free) 8: Brookfield Zoo ($16.95) _ 7. Rock Climb Outdoors Rock Climbing is one the most llliflfils TECH lflElEBlTIE WEEK 20H . ‘9. 5'3 exciting sports you can try. With good weather, you can climb outdoors in Chicago without a jacket. The Rock Climbing Club at IIT can provide you gears, places to climb, transportation and an amazing experience. Email iitclimbing@gmail.com to join. 8. Play Ball Outside Volleyball or Soccer! IIT has a Beach Volleyball court that can only be used in the summer! If you a soccer fan, enroll in the HT Soccer league outdoor open to all students. This is a must do before the winter comes as you will only enjoy outdoor sports during the summer. 9. BBQ at the Quad Grill up some grub at the Quad, or attend Rush week.
