The game started off great as Carmelo Anthony struggled against a tight Chicago defense which saw the Bulls up by 10 at the end of the first quarter Chicago stayed in the lead for most of the night and lead by as many as 131 Then came the fourth quarter; Chicago struggled offensively and only made 2 field goals the entire quarter The Knicks clawed back at the lead and tied the gamer Then Tyson Chandler goes to the free throw line with 108 seconds left, shoots 12 and gives New York a late 817801ead1 There was no doubt about who was getting the ball nextl Thibodeau calls a time, out and makes a great play call as they inbound the ball, move it across the floor to Rose, who was standing onthe wing near the baseline He drives and sees Raymond Felton and 7efooter Tyson Chandler make their way towards him With 517 seconds left he risesl He rose and connected on his signature floater, Chicago up 8281 and the crowd lost it Rose maintained his stern demeanor and quickly got back on defense as him and the Bulls hold out for a last second attempt by Anthony that goes wider Chicago wins, Rose with the gameewinnerl “MVP" chants were heard nonestopl The city sure is glad to have their closer back Welcome back Derrick Rose Women's soccer falls short to Olivet, St. Xavier Veronica Torres TECHN EWS WRITER The Illinois Tech Women’s Soccer team came out on the unlucky end of two tight fought matches during the past week The Hawks suffered a 10 loss to both Olivet Nazarene University and St Xavier University Traveling to Olivet, the lady Hawks knew they were going to have their work cut out for them playing against the previous year’s NAIA national runnerseupl However, the team was up for the challenge, and that is exactly what they proved With a more defensive tactical approach, the Scarlet Hawks were able to hold Olivet to only one goal over the 90 minutes Goalkeeper, Roxanne Myers came up big with 18 saves on the night, while the rest of the squad defended relentlessly to keep the score at bay Illinois Tech then added some offensive pressure of their own late into the match but it was too late The Hawks had a few chances to equalize but the Olivet keeper was able to maintain the shutout Coming ofi’ that strong performance, the result against the St Xavier Cougars was more disappointing Despite dominating possession and having the more threatening opportunities at goal, the Scarlet Hawks were unable to come out on top They kept constant pressure throughout the game but just couldn’t manage to find the back of the net Unfortunately for the Hawks, a miscommunication cost the team an own goal in the 39th minute Nevertheless, they continued to take it to the Cougars flooding them with attack Tech striker, Anida Phetchanpheng had a golden opportunity late in the game to find the equalizer ofi’ a through ball from Hailey Kunkel, but the ball was just shy of the post Poor finishing proved to cost the Hawks dearly as they were visibly the better side in the defeat Illinois Tech looks to finish the season strong with final games against Calumet College of St Joseph and Cardinal Stritch University Men's soccer loses against archrival, St. Xavier Bart Grabowski TECHNEWS WRITER Illinois Tech looked to knock off conference rivals, St Xavier which would have been their first win against St Xavier in their last five meetings throughout the last four seasons With a winning mentality in the place, the Hawks came out with fiery passion and intensity despite a rainy evening, as the first half kicked off The first halfprovided anexhilarating string of sequences in which Illinois Tech found themselves on the offensive sides of the ball However in the 4th minute of play, St Xavier found the back of the net on a poor clearance by the Hawks defense The Hawks were found down 170 and still 86 minutes left to capture their fourth conference win.
