Its mission will be to provide distinctive and relevant education in an environment of scientific, technological, and professional knowledge creation and innovation.” The university is in the mid-stages of developing a new strategic plan. As was IEEE@IIT hosts first meeting of Swasti Khuntia LAYOUT EDITOR The IEEE Student Chapter at IIT had their first general meeting of this semester on Thursday, 28 February in the Siegal hall auditorium. Since it was the first meeting students were curious about the agenda. George Williams, Secretary of the Students Chapter, on behalf of the President started the discussion by introducing the IEEE@IIT members to the students and then speaking about the meeting agenda including the introduction of new executive board members, upcoming IEEE@ IIT events, internship matching, projects funded evident in recent online discussions on budget transparency and the questions posed during the President/ Provost Forum, HT is composed of multifaceted perspectives and a student buy- in is crucial for the success of the strategic plan. Therefore, the Dean of Students invites you to submit your thoughts and feedback! The current HT Strategic Plan, Mission and Vision Statements can be viewed online at: httpszllwww.iit.edu/mvov/strategic_ plan/vision_mission_values.shtml. Please contact the Dean of Students office at dos@iit. edu with any questions or comments. The form can be accessed by emailing dos@iit.edu. The questions range from relatively by IEEE and scholarships awarded by IEEE as well as announcing a T -shirt contest. After the introduction of members, George spoke about the upcoming events, like a barbecue party planned after Spring break. Upcoming events will be notified to students via e-mail and the Facebook group. Students seeking internship have an opportunity to apply via IEEE. All that is needed is to send their resume to ieee@iit. edu (the official email id of IEEE@IIT). There are few projects that are funded by IEEE, like Raspberry Pi, Quadcopter, Mutitouch project, Guitar Amp and Ardupilot. The first project meeting is scheduled for 14th March in the objective matters like students’ preferred branding of the university to more subjective views on student experience and the priorities you see as important. The options include increasing the undergraduate student body, stabilizing the graduate student population, improving university ranking, developing more pathways to professionalism through better partnerships between colleges, transforming the popular summer experience at IIT, expanding on-line education program offerings, involving the Institute of Design, Kent Law and Stuart School of Business into the undergraduate experience, development of Lewis College of Human Galvin Center, located in the HT Tower, 16th floor. As per the recent announcement, the Raspberry Pi project has received the maximum attention among students. Hence, that project is expected to be discussed elaborately. After the commencement of projects, the meeting office would be shifted to Seigal Hall basement. George asked the interested students to talk to IEEE@IIT members, or mail them if they have any queries about the projects. They have also created an online sign-up sheet for the project participation. Talking about the scholarships awarded by IEEE, there are currently three scholarships open to IEEE members viz., Sciences, growth of research and support and increasing faculty diversity. The university also wants feedback on distinctively defining the HT graduate population, increasing the impact of HTS research by focusing on interdisciplinary themes, promoting innovation and excellence throughout the university, elevating engineering’s reputation to international stature and improving the financial strength of the university. Besides these the form also asks for suggestions in adding value to your experience at IIT as well as any other comments or suggestions about the current and/ or proposed strategic initiatives as listed above. semester the Richard E. Bidusha Poudyal, one of the scholarship holders, who is also in the executive body, strongly encouraged applying for the scholarships. Students who are interested in graph/logo designing have an opportunity to design the IEEE T -shirt, and get awarded a whopping $100. Finally, the meeting ended with membership queries.
