At the end of the day, as students streamed past the ice sculptures and hot choc, olate stations that had been set up for the event on their way to the BOG for a postelaunch party, there was an excited buzz throughout the MTCC. Students looked at the proposed renderings forthe E1 and Life Sciences renovae tions, talked to alumni about their experiences at IIT, and talked about their opinions of the school’s goals. One thing is certain from the launch of the campaign 7 a lot of time and eff fort have gone into making this campaign hape pen and making it exciting for the students and alumni of IIT. Following up on the overwhelm, ing success of the Engineering Themes Month in September 2012, the Armour College of Engineering has started invite ing proposals for studenteled projects to be supported within the Engineering Themes distinctive education initiative. Recognized in a student’s engineering portfolio, these projects and related activities are expected to be directly relevant to one or more of the theme areas, have large impact on student education and engage a high number of IIT engineering undergraduates’. Expecting to be competitive, all meritorie ous proposals will receive funding and ad, ministrative support from Armour College and the Engineering Themes Student Coune cil. The Engineering Themes, an Are mour College of Engineering distinctive education initiative, was started in 2011 in order to enhance the undergraduate experie ence at IIT. The program provides students with the opportunity to apply their engie neering education to some of the most ime portant challenges facing society today via alumni panels, field trips, IPROs, research assistance, etc. You can learn more about the Engineering Themes at iit.edu/engineering/ themes. Successful proposals will be ex, pected to identify how the activity directly addresses one or more of the theme areas, describe how student participation will be maximized, as well as establish partnerships and collaboration between student organie zations. Proposals can include, but are not limited to, team engineering projects, design projects, engineering competitions, and even community outreach efforts. Prof grams that engage the broader community (e.g. community groups, government, in, dustry, schools, hospitals, etc.) are encoure aged but it is not required. Proposals should be submitted via email to engineering@iit. edu. The email should include the subject line “Themes Proposal”.
