After two years of rumors and Steve’s demise, along with the patent issues between the two mobile giants and the hilarious Ads criticizing each other’s product, here is my review on my first—hand experience of the iPhone 5. Where I come from, an Apple launch event was a worldwide reported event, viewed on television. This year, my dreams of having the amazing experience of owning an Apple product came true. The wait in front of the store was an amazing experience. I stood in the line for 3 hours as the temperatures dropped down and the wind was harsh. Along with me was the entire line that seemed to cross half of Downtown Chicago. Each and every moment the feeling of holding the masterpiece of Steve Jobs was crackling inside and people in the line were talking excitedly about the reviews and features. Since it was my first—time experience all these were like the bedtime stories I used to carefully listen to during my childhood days. At long last I was the next in line to enter the store after the excruciating and freezing long wait. The kind lady at the store asked a few questions and my preference on the color of the phone, she finally brought out the sleek Dark Knight beauty from the store room and proceeded with the formalities then she opened the case and presented the worlds most advanced technology and it was more precious than a diamond for me. Getting back to the awesome features that have been integrated into the new iPhone Concert Review: 5 along with the iOS 6 software and A6 chip processor is the: 0 Maps — The maps are just brilliant with the navigation system and 3D imaging, and while I prefer Google maps, it’s not a bad start for the iPhone 5. 0 Siri — An improved the existing Siri app makes it smarter and quicker to understand, it’s like you’re talking to your BEE. 0 FaceTime — Comes in HD now. It supports Wi— Fi as well as carrier data plans. 0 Passbook & Caller Dialing — Certain new apps are being integrated to have your tickets and special passes on—the—go, reducing paper work. Call dialing now has the ability to switch to DND (Do Not Disturb) mode and then remind you to call the person later on, making life much easier. 0 New Design — It’s absolutely “Weightless” compared to previous 4 S & 4. Made much more compact, sleek and easy to handle with a wider screen and doesn’t disappoint on the voice clarity with the new headphones, it’s just that AWESOME! The 4—inch Retina Display gives the smart TVs a run for their money’s worth. 0 Wi—Fi Capturing — Apple has always inspired us with its new trends it has made capturing of Wi—Fi so fast that certain places where Wi— Fi even though is slow enables the user to get the best reception. LTE wireless technology is built in for this, optimizing for a better battery life. 0 iSight Camera — The camera has become better and classier. You can now now take full—length pictures of a place using panorama and also zoom with clarity at its best. It also has HD recording. 0 Lightning Connector — It’s sleeker Two Door Cinema Club By Katie Peters COPY EDITOR & LAYOUT EDITOR I have to admit, I’m not the type of person who enjoys concerts. Loud music, pushing crowds, and continuous jumping are not exactly my idea of a fun night; that would most likely be snuggling into bed playing Marvel: Avengers on Facebook or watching Breaking Amish on TV. Last week I attended a Two Door Cinema Club concert though, and whether I want to or not, I have to admit I enjoyed it. There is a definitely a big difference between going to a band you know well and can sing along to and a band you hardly know. The latter was definitely true for me; I managed to fake my way through three of the songs, but that was it. However, something about the experience, whether it was the antique charm of the venue, or the over—the—top connection of the crowd with the music that left me enjoying the night away from my laptop and the power of Hulu. My favorite part of the night definitely had to be the mom, no kids in sight, rocking out beside us; she obviously had a lot of experience in concerts, and was moshing with the best of them. She actually pushed a too crazy fan back to where he came from at one point. When she opened a space for us, and recommended that we move up or be blocked, I have to admit I did not hesitate in taking her motherly advice. The two opening bands did leave a lot to be desired; one ofthe bands had a good sound but no clarity to their lyrics or direction. Their performance left me wondering if all of the lyrics were about conquering the world; the lead singer slightly reminded me of a future evil genius who was much too concerned with having a loud “warmed—up” crowd. The second band, well, was indescribable; indescribably bad, unfortunately, as it was the strangest performance I have ever seen. One of the band members’ jobs appeared only to be chiming finger cymbals every so often, unsuccessfully surfing the crowd, and prancing around the stage in his glitter sequined leopard jacket; on the other hand, the lead singer employed a series of screams and clicking for more than half of her set list. At the end of their show the lead singer tossed a poisonous—looking flower into the crowd right in front of us. The strange flower was broken however when trying to pop one of the annoying balloons someone kept throwing into the crowd. Luckily, it quickly became time for Two Door Cinema Club to take the stage. Two Door Cinema Club definitely has a great set list; almost all of their songs are upbeat and catchy, and all of the musicians are obviously talented. They did seem to have a strange sort of musical power over their audience however; they didn’t even have to talk between songs to keep their audience hyped up, and most of the performance seemed to be from the audience. The crowd stayed energetic during their entire performance, and the group came back for three well—deserved encore songs. They also had an intense and legit light show that looked great playing against the ornate wooden and gold leaf stage at The Riviera Theatre. However, as I left the concert one last thought stayed with me, a question I ask every time I go to see a band: why do people pay a ridiculous sum of money to go to a concert and sing along so loudly with the crowd that they can’t hear the artist they paid to see? Then I realized the answer: because it is a much more fun way to enjoy the concert, rather than standing there awkwardly not knowing the words. Note to self next time: create Spotify playlist of band I am going to see. I.” f' than the 30—pin connector and it works both ways, saving the effort of having to insert it in the correct position. Above all, iPhone 5 is just a cool Phone. Just as an apple helped Newton discover the theory of gravity and was the cynosure of ILLINOIS INSTITUTEiI/ Image courtesy 0ftechn0rati.com Steve Job s’ eye, it’s now the cynosure of mine. I would suggest getting it as your Christmas present this season as their Tag line says: “The biggest thing to happen to an iPhone since iPhone.” OF TEC H NOLOGY Office of Campus Life Don't Forget!
