6 E: ::i :5 El GRAEME PORT sports@technewsiit.com mews I Tuesday, September 20, 2011 Women’s soccer wins again, keeps ball rolling By Heather Bickerton STAFF WRITER On Saturday afternoon, the Illinois Tech Women’s Soccer team faced Bethel College at Stuart field, with the team turning in a commanding performance to win the game 3701 Going into the game with a 174 record, the Scarlet Hawks definitely needed to up their game, and the team didn’t disappoint, as straight from the kick ofi’ the Hawks attacked the visiting side It wasn’t long until a cross found its way to freshman Veronica Torres’ foot, with the winger calmly placing the ball past the visiting keeper lust seven minutes later the Hawks doubled their lead, when junior Diana Otero received a ball on the edge of the area before she rifled a shot into the bottom right corner of the net For the remainder of the half the home side continued to create chances, with the team recording atotal of 11 shots for the half The second period ofplay started ofi’ just as well as the first, with HT holding onto the ball and using the wings wellr Senior Kay Durbin had a fantastic game on the right wing and just three minutes into the second half she slotted the ball through to Diana Otero, who crossed the ball to junior Lauren Capuano, who placed the ball into the near post for the Hawks’ third goal Despite the team creating a number of other chances the score remained 370 at the final whistle The Hawks travel to Indiana on Wednesday to face Taylor College, then the team returns to Stuart Field to play their homecoming game (Kick701T at 2 pm) The team greatly appreciated the support this past weekend, so on Saturday afternoon, take a break and get down to the game to cheer the Hawks on.
