TechNews | Tuesday, October 7th, 2014 LIFE and HACE's Latino Dance Party Heats Upthe Bog Zaira Ortiz TECHNEWS WRITER Latinos Involved in Further Educa- tion (LIFE) and Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE) held their annual La- tino Dance Party at the BOG on Thursday, September 25, 2014. Students of all ethnicities gathered at the BOG to dance the night away to smooth and energizing Latin tunes. The event began as students slowly entered the BOG, a bit shy and timid, but as the LIFE and HACE executive boards warmed up the dance floor, that shyness dissipated into the night. At 9 p.m., a few students were scat- tered, dancing around the perimeter of the dance floor in the comfort of their corners, but as the DI began to play suave Latin tunes, they couldn’t stand still. By 9:30 pm, students formed circles in the middle of the dance floor. Breakdancers were breaking it down, salsa dancers were shaking their hips, and people who had clearly never danced before even started getting into the groove of things. By 10 p.m., the BOG was past human capacity and Public Safety had to carefully monitor student entry and exit. Students were sweating, mingling, and dancing to their heart’s content. Even the bartenders were dancing for the majority, if not the entirety, of their shifts. LIFE and HACE celebrated not only the Latino presence at IIT with this Latino Dance Party, but also celebrated all diversity on Thursday night. La- tinos, Filipinos, Indians, Asians, Brazilians, the French and so on filled the dance floor. Latino Dance Night was a shout out to the diversity of the IIT community, and a clear representation of the melting pot of cultures and ethnicities IIT embraces, encourages, and accepts. Stu- dents had a blast. Public Safety had a blast. Bartenders had a blast. It truly was a night to remember.
