The first half kicked off and was very much back and forth play up and down the pitch. The Scarlet Hawks scored the opening goal as a result of an outstanding, driving run with the ball by Tyler Haag. He sent three Maranatha players going the wrong way, and after getting into the box, he caused a reckless challenge by a defender for a penalty kick. Brandon Ramirez stepped up to the spot and very coolly sent the keeper the wrong way and slid the ball into the right corner. Maranatha did waiver in their resolve to attack after conceding this goal and continued to press the game with numerous balls over the Ill SGHIIIE'I'I HAWKS IIPIIA'I'E top to high sitting strikers. In the end, their efforts were for naught as the half ended 1—0 with Illinois Tech outshooting the visitors 11-8. The Hawks came out from the intermission with a tactical change that placed more numbers in the midfield to get a foothold in the game. This move was immensely successful as the Scarlet Hawks stalled Maranatha’s attack in the midfield by intercepting numerous passes and preventing any penetrating passes. At the same time, the Illinois Tech attack flourished on the many turnovers of Maranatha as the Hawks flew forward throughout the half and outshooting the visitors 14-1 in the second half. For all their efforts, the Hawks were unable to finish any of their chances, but also kept the visiting side out of the net for a 1-0 win. This was a signature win for the Hawks, who—coming off a loss—needed desperately to rediscover their form and keep their dreams of a national tournament appearance alive. omen'ks Volleyball vs. Mount Mary 7 pm. i 1 Men's Soccer @ Cabrillo College 9 pm.
