Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014 | TechNews NATHAN MCMAHOK Souza sends Scarlet Hawk soccer on scoring spree Nathan McMahon SPORTS EDITOR The women’s soccer team wrapped up a successful homecoming week in a domi— nant 3-0 victory over Anderson University. The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes with the Scarlet Hawks hav— ing the majority of the scoring chances. In the 52nd minute, a sublime, measured through- ball by Ana Salgado found Anida Phetchan- pheng for a diving header into the side netting. This goal fueled an even more in— vigorated attack from the Hawks, but it took another 20 minutes until the next Illinois Tech goal. Driving at the Anderson defense, Lorena Souza was able to punch the ball into the back of the net. This was not the end of the Souza’s scoring for the night though, as just two min— utes later she slipped another by the keeper. The third goal was assisted by the scorer of the first, Anida Phetchanpheng. Lorena Souza now has 5 goals on the season. The Scarlet Hawks outshot Ander— son 21-7 and have moved to 4-3 on the season. The Scarlet Hawks now sit at 12th place in the national standings and look to put together a string of wins as they push towards qualification for the USCAA National Tourna— merit. Tuesday.
