This action eliminates from competition all freshman and thus narrows down the number of men who will be permitted to be active in any sport. The force of this act is not retroactive and con- sequently does not apply to those freshmen who are now engaged in regular competition. Major Letters to Wrestlers The necessity of such a ruling did not arise in past years, occause the calibre of our squads was not such that we had to arrange meets with schools who required that all their opponents have such a regulation; but with the constant improvements that good coaching and talent have wrought, the managers of Tech ath— letics have encountered a great deal of difficulty in obtaining bookings, and thus the action of the A.T.A.A. i was demanded by prevalent C0“dl;v tior'ls. ’ ‘ In contrast with its policy of for— ! mer years of only awarding major: letters to graduating seniors partic-l lpating in minor sports, the A.T.A.A. i has passed favorably the awardingl of major letters in wrestling tol Schmidt, Sumner, Peterson, Kreml,, and Hella who excelled in this sea~l‘ son's work and who are certainly del- ; serving of the letter given to them. ‘ Wrestling: is not considered to be a‘ major sport, and the awarding of major letters in not intended to be indicative of raising the standing of? Wrestling. Minor letters were given 1 to Kercher, Dunne, and Patterson,: while Marslek and Beruquist were“, awarded sweaters. ' Award Assembly Definite other top' were brought up for discu , the date for the award assembly} which will be announced as soon asl the time of delivery of the sweatersi is determined. The actual occur—l rences of this honor assembly is as‘ sored and it; is hoped that the efforts of those behind it will result in the establishment of a precedent which will be maintained in the future. Williams Here Friday For First Ball flame There is no law in the tomes against the business of assumingi something pleasant that perhaps isn’t} so, and for that reason Coach Krail’ti is just about to haul oil and do quite} a bit of assuming in regards to his, baseball team for this year. l The coach is about to assume that hidden somewhere among the thirtyl hopefuls he can find a few pitchers} infielders, and to make a full meas-l ure, a couple of outfielders. ‘ No team can lose eight lettermen‘ and feel no ill effects, when listed, among the departed are such stars as ‘ “Lefty" Mayer, Vie 0mieclnskl,‘ “Pepper" Reed, Micky Lukas, andl Steve Lillis. l The main question is, “Will thel pitchers come through?" if they do,‘ things look rosy, but if they fail to} deliver, ('1) ! l Pitchers Are Big Wnrry ', Just what is in store for the Ar~i moor fans who look forward to the} iirst game remains unpredicted.
