The outdoor season to (late has brought about all that could be de- sired in the way of victories. To start the season Chicago Normal Col- lege was buried under an avalanche of first, second and third places. In this meet it will be remembered Armour scored 12 first places and slammed several events. ’ll‘hree Victories to Date Later in the same week Crane was defeated in Ogden Field by a com~ fortable margin. Then came the Drake Relays, where the team did not fare so well. Y. M. C. A. COL [age was defeated on their own track by a large score. Last week Armour was host to several hundred athletes at the An- nual Outdoor Invitational Meet. AL though Armour failed to win the meet, several of the men turned in some very good times. On the show~ ings of the various teams in this meet Armour should stand a good chance of winning the remaining meets on the schedule with the pos- sible exception of the Sears Y In- vitational. In this meet are ex- pected to be many of the some teams which competed in the Armour In" vitational a week ago. Lake Forest Strong Opponents Lake Forest, which won the In- vitational Meet a week ago, will probably furnish the strongest com- petition. largely a one man affair and should not be nearly so difficult in a meet where places do not count for as many points as in a large Invita- tional Meet. Announcements for this week show that the baseball team is to play in three contests, the track team to engage in one dual and one tri— angular meet, tennis matches to be played with three schools and the golf squad to meet three opponents. This adds up to eleven contests, seven of which are to be fought on Armour home grounds. 1,000 Record is Possible The track squad is to enjoy a double holiday for Lake Forest is scheduled on Wednesday afternoon at the north shore school and Saturn day a triangular meet between Mil- waukee State Teachers College, Y. ,M. Then on Friday the squad is to travel to Valparaiso, Indi— ana, to meet Valparaiso University. A hectic week will close on Saturday with the Crane matches also at Ever- green. Aliern Tech Supporter We should like to mention a side- light in connection with the Ever— green course. Mr. Art Ahern, an Armour student in the early days of 1901, is director of the course and has kindly allowed the Armour golf squad to practice and to play dual matches with no cost to the team. This has been going on for many years now and we trust that Mr. Ahern will continue to give, Tech golf teams the well known "break." Notro Dame and Loyola The colorful Notre Dame tennis team is scheduled for a match at South Bend on Tuesday while the Loyola team is to meet Tech in the home courts on Saturday. Y Col- logo will be met within the next two weeks. Several return baseball games to be played on Ogden Field are sched- uled for Wednesday and Friday. Wheaten is to be met on the former date and Michigan State on the lat- ter. Bill Krall‘t, baseball mentor, ex- pects tough battles on both occasions. Oh, yes, we should not fail to men- tion the annual Varsity-Alumni ball game on next Monday. D. in Finals Qt Ball Tourney Sigma Kappa Delta won the right to meet Phi Pi Phi for the interfrzp ternity baseball title by defeating Kappa Delta Tan 13 to 0. Only two hits were allowed by C Jeus, the op- hits were allowed by E. Jens, the op— posing batters usually hitting pop ies or easy grounders. Kappa Delta Tau made a threat at scoring in the 5th inning, when two men reached base on errors, but the next three men failed to connect with the ball. Sigma Kappa Delta connected heavily with Goldman’s pitching, and taking advantage of errors made at critical times, drove in 5 runs before being retired. 13'. the second inning they again pounded the pitcher, and Tuchinsky stepped into the box when it became apparent that Gold— man couldn’t get out of the hole. It took time for the new pitcher to get warmed up, and four runs crossed the plate. The next three innings were a different story, as Tuchinsky hurled a nice brand of ball, allowing only three scattered hits. What should have been two sin- gles in the 6th inning turned out to be circuit trips because of a series of errors by the K.D.T.’s. Not until four runs had crossed the plate did the team tighten up. At that, only two putouts were made, a mistake in recording by the umpire retiring the side. SIGMA KAPPA DELTA—d3 ab r l| no ll e Reed, as .. .. . 2 3 2 0 l l! A. There is some probability that King Simpson, Armour’s demon pitching ace of '29, will do the hurling. In case King does decide to shoulder the job, victory may not be attained as easily as is anticipated at present. Just now, Kraft‘t feels confident that his youngsters will run circles all over the ancient performers, and to prove that the 1931 team is as good as any that he has had he is willing to spot the alumni as many, runs as they desire. Last year’s game terminated in an upset as Armour’s regulars lost. John Yount, ’28, teamed with gradu~ ates of ’96 and others, turned the regulars down in a seven inning con- test. The surprising feature of an alum- ni game is that many of the gradu— ates, who have abandoned baseball for a number of years are able to turn in some Aul performances. Otto Kuehn‘s hitting in last season’s game had outrivaled the hitting 01 the undergraduate-3’ despite the fact that Mr. Kuehn plays but one game of baseball per year.
