The goal of this IPRO research/design project is to establish an ongoing energy-based architectural studio. The studio will focus on a specific project, but in an investigative and experimental manner. The end result of each project is expected to consist of cutting edge architectural solution, which will help provide insight into methods for integrating environmental concerns into architectural design process. The studio will explore the BIPV system, particularly in applications used for exterior wall systems. Also wind energy will be introduced. During the semester students will be directed Focusing on extensive research, data collection, elements and component design, putting this research information together and work towards a total building design.The project will be the trump tower building in Chicago, as planned by SOM. It is expected to be tallest building in the word. The student team will be led by IIT faculty, as well as professionals from the fields of architecture, and mechanical, chemical and structural/architectural engineering, including partners from the sponsoring firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP.
